Okay so hear me out - there is such a thing as a great psycho boyfriend/husband that is OBSESSED with the FMC and then there is the next level which is Hayden. He was alot alot in this book. I don’t know why I read the second book in this series to be honest - These books were just very mid. The spicy scenes were really good though.

*Minor Spoilers*

Quite literally the worst thing I’ve read this year. I’m not a seasoned dark romance reader, I felt disgusted reading this. This was not a romance, it was a story of how a creep trapped his victim. And yeah yeah “it’s called dark romance for a reason” BS!!! Even if the author left in all the depraved disgusting things he did to the female protagonist, if he was fully honest with her and was remorseful, and made efforts to be a (not better) but LESS terrible person, I might have rated this a little higher. But Hayden had ZERO character development. Actually he did. He regressed. It’s a shame because I really enjoyed book 1 as a guilty pleasure but I enjoyed it nonetheless because of the introduction to the characters and their backstories and the plot’s potential, but seeing it all go to waste makes me want to change my rating for book 1. Maybe the fact that I’m a “diet dark romance” reader is making me feel this way, but I firmly believe that even morally gray characters should have some sort of character development and Hayden’s lack thereof is what made this an objectively bad book.

Frustrating Sequel with Too Many Missed Opportunities

Well… I thought I was going to enjoy this sequel. I really did. But nope—I was wrong. This one just didn’t work for me at all.

Like the first book, the premise had potential, but some of the author’s choices genuinely frustrated me. Let’s start with the big one: Hayden killed her father. Yes, he was misled into thinking her dad got away with murder—but at the end of the day, he still murdered her father. And Calista? She had zero backbone. Every time Hayden came around with a seductive look, she folded. It got exhausting watching her forgive him over and over again like nothing mattered.

Then there’s the pacing. The climax of the plot was rushed to the point where it left my head spinning. Who even is Thomas Russell? Did he actually sexually assault Calista? Why was that brushed past like a footnote? I had so many questions, and none of them were answered. It felt like the book sprinted past its most important moments.

And don’t even get me started on the third-act breakup. You’re telling me Hayden—who has one of the best hackers at his disposal—just couldn’t find her for months? Make it make sense. The plot holes were wild.

Honestly, the only reason I didn’t DNF this was because it was short—about 250 pages. Otherwise, I would’ve tapped out.

This was awful. If you think the MCs cant get more stupid, they are here saying "hold my beer." I don't think there's much more to say without breaking into a full rant.
