This just pretty much felt like a copy and paste of the cat and mouse duet. Even the storyline followed the same line. The choice of nickname was similar, storyline was similar, MO of main characters was basically the same. It just didn’t feel original in any aspect. The MMC, Hayden, felt like an abductor more than anything and the entire book gave off intense Stockholm syndrome

I really enjoyed this duet, it was
an enjoyable dark romance.
Definitely reading more from
this new-to-me author.

typically i can read a book and say “ sure , i get why people would enjoy that “ , but looking back at this book . . . i don’t get it . i don’t understand . hayden is nothing but a selfish asshole and calista is an inconsistent piece of jelly that can’t stand her ground . i feel nothing but hatred for both of these characters at this point in time .

what’s funny is that the one character i do like this time is the one character that really annoyed me in the first book , harper . her stupid jokes felt like actual comic relief this time , and i probably liked them more this time since they weren’t as often and overdone as in the last book .

hayden does not understand boundaries . and i get it , that’s supposed to be his point , but there is no single good point or characteristic to him in this book other than he pays for calista’s things and they apparently have good sex . and even then i don’t give a shit about the sex . it felt so unimportant and bland . i do not understand in any way shape or form how any person could want a man like him , even in fiction . the birth control . that’s one thing i’ll say . the clothing on the island . that’s another .

also the lawyer technicalities that he’s not actually having sex with her because he’s just giving her oral ? shut the fuck up hayden . a real lawyer would pull all the technicalities out of calista’s “ no sex “ ask . no sex is no sex . oral , touching , penetration , that includes ALL of it . hayden is such a fake lawyer he was not well researched .

let ME be technical here , okay ? what calista said was : ” i need a time-out on the sex . “ sex is an all encompassing word here . it counts ALL kinds of sex . not just penetration . i’m not going to list all the different kinds of sexual activities , we’re adults , you can see what i’m talking about .

> “ when i tried to argue that oral sex was included in the rule , he said that i hadn’t stipulated it in the verbal contract , therefore he wasn’t entitled to adhere to that. “
>

the fact that hayden is pretending it doesn’t is stupid . but maybe i just hate the book so much that the spicy scenes made me angry because they made me feel nothing . i felt nothing for their relationship . i didn’t care if it lasted or not . i can keep being technical but i don’t think anyone here wants that .

and when i say that calista has no fucking spine ? this is what i mean :

> “ back in new york , i told him no sex , and not once has he tried to sleep with me . how am i supposed to be upset with hayden when he’s respecting the boundary that i set ? “
>

HE IS NOT RESPECTING YOUR FUCKING BOUNDARIES CALISTA , HOLY FUCK . i’m sorry that actually pissed me off *so much* when i read it , i couldn’t believe what i was seeing .

also once they came back from the island and they’d claimed their love for each other or whatever , hayden was so fucking bad at talking about the fact that he wanted to fuck . . . every time he said he was going to fuck her , i found it so . . unattractive .

> he nods , but retracts his hand and squezes his eyes shut as though he’s in pain . “ callie ? “ he says , his voice strained .
” what’s wrong ? “
” it’s been *three* weeks . “
” three weeks since what ? “
he looks up at me , the skin around his jaw tight . “ i’m so fucking hard right now . “
” *oh* . “
>

like . . . you can’t have a conversation ? ask if the ban is over now ? talk about how you love each other and how you’d love to show her that now ? anything other than “ ummmmm my pp hard actually can we deal with that ? “ can anything EVER also be about how calista feels ?

TALKING ABOUT CALISTA’S FEELINGS ? IN THE ENDING ?

i won’t spoil it but i mean , calista finds out something fucking huge and understandably she wants to leave hayden and think for a while but obviously this man has no concept of any goddamn boundaries or space .

> “ . . . i had to get away to think , and i knew you wouldn’t let me do that in peace . “
” so , you ran and scared the shit out of me ? “ i narrow my eyes at her , silently accusing her for torturing me these past months . “ do you know how worried i’ve been , the number of sleepless nights i’ve experienced ? i couldn’t rest without knowing whether or not you were alive . “
” with all that happened , you have to understand that i was falling apart , “ she says ( 218 ) .
>

oh i’m sorry hayden , you felt bad ? your feewings were huwt ? aww ? you had a booboo in youw heawt ? poor hayden . fuck off with that . fucks sake .

this is one of the last things i’ll say , but the ending is such a fucking colleen hoover ass ending and that’s a very fucking negative thing . i was so fucking disappointed and pissed off .

look i think the point of this whole review is very evident . the idea of this duology is amazing . a stalker lawyer that evades the law and takes things into his own hands when he thinks things didn’t go right , but so many subplots and points are just dropped for no reason randomly like calista stops being a neat freak , hayden stops killing , we don’t hear about hayden’s sense of justice anymore , etc . this could have been better written . i think it should have been better written . i’m sorry it is what it is .

It was a bit better than the first book, however I wish that there wouldnt be a 3rd book and we would have all the answers at the end of this book. I will most likely read it when it comes out.
