Jenny Lawson's writing has very similar energy to Mindy Kaling's, in the way that they're kooky and kind of unconcerned with social issues. There was a time that this would have been more appealing to me. I also don't love the "I'm too kooky for my husband and I just make him pinch the bridge of his nose all the time waah-waah." Maybe it's not just my thing anymore to find fun in constantly miscommunicating with your partner. Also does she drink kind of heavily?
Graphic: Alcohol, Animal death, Self harm, Chronic illness, Mental illness, and Panic attacks/disorders
Moderate: Drug use, Grief, Suicide attempt, Blood, Fatphobia, Injury/Injury detail, and Medical content
Minor: Stalking

For me, there were 5 star chapters in this book, and there were 1 to 2 star chapters in this book - but since I'm still glad I read it and the 5 star chapters were so powerful, I'm going with 3 stars. Jenny writes about mental health like no one else, so when she goes deep and honest and serious about it, it's everything. It's just that there are a lot of other entertaining but bizarre stories in this book that I don't think really bolster the mental health discussion she's aiming for. I would love to have seen those chapters cut by half and replaced with more of the incredible way she paints a picture of mental illness that helps both those who are struggling with it and those who aren't truly understand it better.
Graphic: Mental illness and Self harm
Moderate: Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, and Suicide attempt

I did like decent chunks of this book, though I didn't find it nearly as funny as some others. As someone with both anxiety and depression I recognized a lot of the topics at hand.
Read this a few years ago as an ebook, and gave it 2⭐. The audiobook is definitely better. Would have liked it better without all the taxidermied/dead animals.
