This is the second book by Jenny Lawson who won my heart with Let's Pretend This Never Happened. Jenny knows how to get to the heart of the matter and with brunt, beautiful hilarity. I highly recommend this book and her first one to anyone but especially to those who struggle with mental health issues as she can provide the weird humor that only we can understand.

I really enjoyed Jenny Lawson's first book and I have been anticipating this one for a couple years. I appreciated thar she wanted to have it centre on her mental illness and to bring the subject of mental illness to the public eye. However, I really just did not end up enjoying the book. The chapters jumped from the heavy and serious to light and ridiculous. While I appreciated the attempts at levity, I just found it exhausting. The moments of serious just made the comedic moments seem like they were trying too hard.

Lawson still stays very true to her (in an awesome way that should be applauded) and this is a great book for understanding mental illness in others or just having someone to relate to if you suffer from one. I know that people will disagree with me and I'm fine with that. I think my experience was very unique to me and not something that should be brought to the bank as a true review of the book's quality.

There was a lot of great stuff in this book. Plenty of insightful discussions about mental illness, which is something that I've struggled with most of my life - not to the degree of the author but I could relate to some aspects of what she had to say. Most of the book is Lawson telling stories and sharing stream of consciousness essays. While I definitely enjoyed her sense of humor and found some of the stories interesting, her voice and repetitive nature of the jokes made the last half or so of the book sort of painful.

I think I would have enjoyed this one much more if I had limited myself to something like 30 minute sessions. Or I could be fooling myself and would have eventually just put it in the DNF pile. I got dangerously close to putting it there anyway but I'm determined to keep my total books completed numbers as high as possible this year. I WILL MAKE MY GOAL!

If you share a twisted sense of humor and love of foul language with the author, and me, and are interested in reading the book, I suggest trying a chapter or two a day.

I went back and forth between 2.5 and 3 stars. I decided on three because I really did laugh out loud a few times and some of her stories were very good. I was just too much of the same thing over and over to make it completely enjoyable for me.

Absolutely loved this book. Many parts hit close to home as a reader who struggles with my own mental illness. The candid way the author tells her stories made me feel like I was listening to the words of a friend. I would definitely recommend this book!

the chapter about dealing with rheumatoid arthritis/chronic pain made me cry. this one is just as funny as Broken (In The Best Possible Way) by her & the last couple chapters really hit the feels. she is such a talented writer & im in awe of everything she's able to handle on a daily basis.

Love her!

I loved this book so much. She totally gets it. She is hilarious. She is so spot on about how depression feels and how its feels to live with the thoughts that you know you shouldn't listen to, but sometimes can't ignore.

I was going through a rough time when one of my best friends recommended this memoir to me. It lifted my spirits immensely. You will laugh - I guarantee it, no matter how dark life is to you today. :)

Not sure if I enjoyed this book or not. It had points that were funny and amusing. Yet, the author's rants and going onto a tangent of whatever topic that came to her head was distracting. It was a good distraction when doing mindless or repetitive tasks.
