Didn't life begin in water? Didn‘t we need it so much we grew a skin around us to trap it inside when we crawled out?

i want more dystopian novels about climate change and the failure of modern capitalism!!
the end felt a bit chaotic especially after a slower paced rest of the book and there’s some things i don’t quite buy (the facility tour) but all in all i loved that this didn’t try to be a love story (looking at you, YA dystopias) and cassidy was a very interesting character

This is a curious one. Rationally, I know the ambiguous ending works and can admire the densely packed prose, but for my own enjoyment, I just wanted answers! No loose ends! A quicker pace! And YET, I also woke up this morning thinking of the characters and California and the tension between individuals and society that Kleeman seems eager to explore, so even if it left me stressed, it also left me thinking...? Definitely a strange little thing of a book!
