Spicy yet oh so sweet. A thoughtful examination of sexual orientation, love, and friendship, along a generous helping of heart and humor.

Him (Him #1) by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Dual POV • MM romance • Bi-curiosity • Friends to lovers • Hockey romance • 328 pages

I finally picked this one up after so many bookish friends told me I had to read it, and wow—I get it now. The chemistry between Ryan & Jamie is off the charts, and their journey from best friends to lovers is equal parts sweet, emotional, and very spicy.

What I especially appreciated was Jamie’s realization that he isn’t “suddenly gay,” but bi. It felt authentic—acknowledging that attraction doesn’t always flip like a switch, and representation like that matters.

Yes, some of their conversations felt a little juvenile—but then I overheard my husband with his buddy and thought, “Nope… that’s just how men talk to each other at any age.” 😂 It actually made their friendship-to-lovers arc feel even more genuine.

The tension around acceptance—family, organizations, teammates—was portrayed realistically, even though I wish people just didn’t care who anyone loves. And major kudos to the authors for keeping the focus on Jamie and Ryan instead of tossing in unnecessary jealousy drama.

And ohhh those spicy scenes? Hot, hilarious at times (looking at you, SUV scene), but always purposeful for the story.

Will I continue the series? Absolutely. These boys have my heart now.
