Better than book one. I think you could read this on it’s own. While you get the inside jokes that the group says a couple times it doesn’t feel like you needed to read book one to read this one.

Law and Remy were a good fit. I love a rockstar romance, even though this doesn’t feel like one it was great to see mental health represented in this book.

I did get annoyed with the flashbacks they happened a lot in the beginning and I get that Riley Hart wanted to show they had a history but it was a lot haha

I enjoyed this more than book one for sure!

This was such a sweet story. It was a bit too slow for me. If the pacing was better it would’ve been an easy 4 stars. Remy and Law’s relationship felt familiar and real

I’m pretty disappointed. I was honestly looking forward to reading this one quite a lot, and it did not live up to my expectations. Maybe it’s partly my fault for having hyped it up in my head so much, but I think that even regardless of that, I would not have enjoyed this book all that much.

First of all, I want to point out that I really did like the idea and premise of this story. It’s a second-chance romance about two boys who fell in love when they were 18, but because one of them was unable to come out and constantly wanted to be in hiding, they broke up after a few years of being together. The pain and misery became too much, but they never stopped loving each other.
Now, it’s six years later, and Remy and Lawson reunite again. There are hurt feelings there, but also a lot of unresolved feelings and everlasting love. After dancing around each other for a bit, they eventually get together again, try to work through their issues and become happy once more.

I think one of my main issues with this story was that it all felt a lot like telling rather than showing. Remy and Lawson constantly talk about how much they love each other and how deep their bond is, but in reality I didn’t really see it. Even before their break-up I saw a lot of resentment and bitterness in their relationship, and after they reunited they were kind of just awkward together. There was a constant string of love declarations, but aside from that, they didn’t really do anything together. I have no idea how they truly interact with one another or what makes them feel like they are so perfect for each other. I mean, Lawson only ever talked about Remy’s creativity and stuff like that, while Remy just seemed to be happy to have someone who wanted him deeply for the “real” him. I honestly didn’t really see what made them work well together; it seemed that all that tied them together was the sex and the idea of how much they loved each other.
Anyway, maybe I’m being a bit negative about their situation, because I do believe they both truly loved each other, but I just personally didn’t really get to see that and thus, I wasn’t a big fan of them as a couple. I wasn’t as sympathetic towards their situation and hardships as I could have been had I felt more connected to them or their relationship. It just all fell a bit flat for me. And, in all honesty, I was often bored with it all. I was especially bored with all the sex scenes.

Regardless, my favourite part about this book was when Remy came out publicly. It was absolutely beautiful: I was honestly moved by his words, his strength and his underserved misery. I wish I would have felt more emotions like this throughout the rest of the book, but this was really the only time it hit me.

Second chance and a celebrity main character in a small-town setting? Give me, give me! It was obvious from the previous book in the series that Lawson is super hot, has a great personality, and carries some secrets on his own so I was very much looking forward to his story.
Remy (Remington) is a renowned music star, writing and playing emotional songs, and has been successfully touring the world for years. Unbeknown to anyone, he and Lawson were secretly in love while Law was in college. He shattered Law’s heart 6 years ago when he chose his career and music (partly out of obligation as he is taking care of his family) … but in the process, he also broke up with the only person in the world who truly made him feel free. Law, now content with his life and running his dream café in Havenwood, is shocked to see Remy is his new neighbor. The still closeted, anxiety-ridden musician is trying to find himself again, maybe hoping to find friendship with Law … but plans don’t always go as wanted. They are so much more to each other than just friends … but Remy’s life is way too complicated and finding a way to be together doesn’t come easy for these guys. This is a true 2nd chance romance, showing you all the pain of losing someone and all the hopes of finding love with them again. Their future is fragile but these two beautiful souls deserved all the happiness and it made me so glad once they got there. You got to see all their friends again and enjoy Riley’s beautiful writing, I have no doubt that if you got this far in the series you are also looking forward to the final 2 books.

Second chance trope is my alllll time fave trope and rarely done well. But this was so sweet and perfect. Law and Remy’s chemistry was sooo good even from the start and their reunion so sweet. They were both just so sweet! And I loved how Law was there for Remy every step of the way with his anxiety. So understanding.

And I loved that Remy’s career pretty much ended because he was so miserable. I hope Remy just becomes a song writer so he can stay in Havenwood with Law all the time.

This book is the exact reason I die for second chance romance!! It was full of emotion! It had the joy and excitement of a new relationship with the angst of separation. And then…AND THEN…there is the pain and all the passion of the reunion.

Remy and Lawson were wonderful. They met when they were young and due to their situations and circumstances, they went their separate ways. Neither was able to fully move on because their love was the real thing. Once they reunited, it didn’t heal all the wounds but they realized their love was worth all the risks!

Remy’s mental health struggles could be frustrating at times but that was what made him so relatable. I wanted to wrap him in a warm hug. He was so lovable but so so scared! And he did love Law with every fiber of his being. He was just stuck between obligations, fear and love.

Lawson was definitely hurt following their breakup and he never moved on. Remy was his one real love. Even when Remy returned he couldn’t stay mad. He really did just want Remy to live his life honestly, even if that meant they couldn’t be together.

Gah! They were so sweet, kind, affectionate and vulnerable together.

This one lost some stars as we went along. Sweet and boring.
