For a short book, this really dragged for me. There were some characters whose story was far more engaging than others, but overall I felt the characters were under developed and unrelatable - especially the women. A good example of a man writing women poorly!

I don’t like the way he talks about women, it’s very “men writing women”-y. The book isn’t interesting enough for me to tolerate it.

A book about people, and the lives they live in a small town. Broken up into sections, ostensibly about a different character each time, but with others weaving throughout their story, too. There are scandals and mundanity, and everything between. With only the vague suggestion of a singular thread running throughout, the beautiful writing and slow pace mean that doesn't matter. Set in the early 2000s, but with an obvious longing for better, past times, I was fully on-board!

J’ai perdu l’intérêt de ce livre lorsque j’ai réalisé qu’il y avait un commentaire sexuel violent et désobligeant à toutes les trois pages environ. De façon totalement injustifiée, on traite les femmes de chiennes, de salopes et j’en passe des pires. Ce livre est allé directement au recyclage.
