The format is amazing: the "book" is a dossier being reviewed by an unnamed FBI agent charged with identifying its author by Gordon Cole. This is one to definitely read in print and not as an ebook (I almost made this mistake), as the reproductions of documents and the agent's annotations are all beautifully rendered and essential to following the plot. The plot...well, it's not exactly what was announced as the explanation of what has happened in the interim between the end of the series and the start of the new one. Instead, it fills out some of the back story of events that led up to Laura Palmer's murder, and does a great job of linking some of the subplots of Fire Walk With Me to those of the series. Suffice it to say, if you're a fan of the show and film, and need a fix of Twin Peaks goodness before the new series airs, this book is for you.

for how much i talked about this book, i couldn't end up giving it all 5 stars. it takes us up to events at the end of the series as well as it can, and also includes references to cases folllowed in Fire Walk With Me., but towards the end it still doesn't answer any questions. However, it does do a great job of building hype.

A note on how to read this book - I LOVED the audio recording as it was full cast and brought us some much loved characters. Cooper, Hawk, Dr. Jacoby and more. However, the physical book is full of ephemera and is beautiful to look at, so I recommend taking a look at both. You certainly won't regret it.

Off to order some cherry pie...

Wow. Very creative. Answers a lot of questions. I like the dossier format.

A dossier of files exploring the history and citizens of Twin Peaks.

This was really enjoyable to read. It was fun, interesting and kept me engaged. I liked it so much that I ordered the second one when I was halfway through this one.

I like David Lynch movies/shows without being a diehard. I appreciate what he's doing and some of it is genuinely inspired. But when paired with a partner whose creative mind is as fertile as Mark Frost, it brings out a sensational product of surrealism and noir: Twin Peaks.

It took me a while to really glom onto the show but now I'm a true believer. It's damn fine television. And now that I'm hooked, I have to prep myself to view Twin Peaks: The Return.

That meant delving into Frost's fictional history of the town. And hoo boy, did I get more than I bargained for.

This "secret history" encompasses everything from the early days of the founding of the country and how it interacted with indigenous folks, to the UFO paranoia of the 40s and 50s and the resulting government conspiracies, to small town history that touches on all of this, to the nature of what mysteries are. Along the way, Frost goes long on a peripheral character, making them important and essential to all that was happening before, during and after special agent Dale Cooper arrived on the scene. The mixed media tome made for compelling reading; it was painful to put down, as it encompassed the best aspects of the show: respecting the mystery boxes without guiding them to full realization.

The "writer" of the document wasn't a surprise but their identity still provided a nice link to all of the stories and made sense in the larger scheme. This got me excited to see The Return and now I can't wait.

Totally bananas. Terribly geeky. Absolutely delightful.

If you label yourself as an avid Twin Peaks fan, then you definitely need to add this book to your shelves! A companion novel/collection to the hit tv series, TSHOTP will leave you on the edge of your seat as you learn about the impact of the Black Lodge on Twin Peaks and other major events in history, the significance of those owls, and the fates of your favorite characters.
