Wayyyyy better than Skellig. Mina's bright, curious, exactly the kind of little girl I would've liked to have been. I think the philosophy really came through not in spite of but rather because of the child narrator's guileless candor.

After her father dies, eccentric Mina develops some very passionate, almost magical, ideas about education. The enchanting, mournful prequel to Skellig.

This is one of my favourite books ever. I think it’s probably the book I’ve read more times during my life, around 10 times I think. It has influenced me in such a way that David Almond’s writing feels like my own, I feel like I write a little bit like him because of this book. For the past 9 years I’ve loved this book and I’m sure I will love it forever and ever, it owns a little special place on my heart

It was really inspirational and clever. It got me thinking about the wonderful things and life and wanting to appreciate all things no matter how small, because everything has it's importance.
