This is like the diary that I always wanted to write, the thoughts that I always wanted to somehow capture and put on a page. Everything I love about language and words and how they can be used in just a diary is encapsulated in this little book.

Wish I would have started with Skellig 1st.

This was such a charming read, I loved the style of the journal with the fonts. The first person narrative did get a bit annoying as the character is so young but I still really loved it.

Nothing happens. This book has no plot at all. It is literally just the thoughts of mina who is an arrogant child with a God complex, she's completely unlikeable and the epitome of the 'I'm not like other girls' and 'I'm so quirky and different.' That's it. Rubbish book. Do not recommend it.
However, it was mildly amusing at times…

This book is Genius! It’s an extraordinary adventure inside the lead character (Mina)’s brain. I think it brilliantly captures the crazy energy and thought flow that goes on inside someone head. I used to do something very similar with my own thoughts many years ago to practice my typing skills. And more recently I draw as I walk, thanks to fitness trackers. As an adult I’ve gotten so much out of this book, so many exciting ideas - Extraordinary Activities I mean - I can only imagine it might blow the mind of a younger reader. Love it!

wonderful novel that reads more like poetry - a perfect antidote to that dragging age of confusion and angst: pre-adolescence. mina is part modern day pollyanna, part junior philosopher. there is not only unvalid thing she contemplates, even if her wondering cause huge headaches for her teacher and school. naturally, she must be homeschooled :) but the author has a balanced approach - depicting another school with deeply flawed students but equally gifted human beings there to teach them.
anyhow, this is a book that would have been perfect for my daughter when she was 11. or she could have even written it. i wish she's read it, but she doesn't take notice of my recommendations anymore.

This was great! I picked this up randomly from my school library because the cover attracted me and because my friend was rushing me. I'm not disappointed!

Mina is one special little girl with a vivid imagination and a joy for living. She's 9 when this takes place but a lot of her thoughts sound like they come from an adult but told in a child-like fashion. Her father died when she was young and she lives with her mom, who also teaches her as Mina was taken out of school.

This is told in a diary format, and uses a hand-written font. It's told very randomly and basically makes you think that Mina thought something and wrote it, which I loved. It showed that kids aren't linear thinkers and shouldn't be expected to be. She's young and that comes across in the writing but it's not a bad thing.

I really loved this, all in all. Didn't know it was a prequel and I had no connection to Mina at all but now I plan on reading Skellig now that I know it exists!

(Also, is it MY-NUH or MEE-NUH? I said MEE-NUH but I'm not sure????)
