Really enjoyed the shifting perspectives, particularly the sections written from Neda’s point of view. The book lost steam for me in the last section but enjoyed it overall.

Ahh, I wanted to like this more! Ajay's start was strong and had a clear path and identity. Neda's following section was weak, relied too heavily on drugs and drug imagery.
And the ending introduced us to Sunil-- who ended up being more of a main character than Sunny.
Sunny was awful, wholly unlikable and un-compassionate as a character.
There were long stretches of this book where someone lights a cigarette on every other page. Please, I was sick of reading that so often!
But, Kapoor can develop a character in just a line or a few pages and make them feel so real and vibrant.
Neda's unsent email! Sunil's backstory! The guy with his brochures that Eli almost runs over with the car. All amazing.
I'd love to read a short story collection by her, or anything more curated that this.

Rounding up. Loved the first 75% and then the last quarter felt like a different book. Still glad I read it but like other readers, it just lost me towards the end. That last 75 pages was a slog

So beautifully written.  Very well thought out plot.  I need a sequel!

The narrative was hard to follow with the different timelines and switching narrators. I struggled to finish this book.

I actually DNF’d, but after giving this book several hours of my life I’m still counting it. The premise was great and it seemed like there would be a lot of action and intrigue. I listened to the audio version and the first part was really good as we got the incident with a bit of mystery and then flashbacks into Ajay’s story. The story really began to devolve after that. There just seemed to be no redeeming qualities in the characters. The differing points of view became a confusing mess. I just reached a point where I realized I had better things to move onto.

Scandalous, cinematic, gripping, violent, smoky, vicey. I think I got second hand smoke from reading this -and I think I liked it.. Perfectly set in India where the wide class differences are stark and overlapping like nowhere else I’ve ever been. I can see why they’re adapting this to a TV series. No real warm fuzzies with this one but I will be waiting for the next book like a hit of my own. That ending!
