This book sucked me in. The main character, Sunny, gave strong Roman Roy (with some Kendall drug stuff). It was well written and I had no clue where it was going.
Already breaking my New Year’s resolution - I should have DNFed this book at about 80%
This book felt like it was written to be a movie. Would definitely be a good movie

You looking for bleak? Here it is.
You interested in a book that is interesting (re: the character Ajay) for the first 200 pages and then leaves you saying WTH? This one is for you.
You hoping to at least have a 500+ page ending to make you say ‘This was worth it’? Not happening.
I’m not sure why I kept going with this other than all the hype and trying to push myself to read something out of my comfort zone. Not all books need to be happy but the cycle of violence, drugs, crappy people, and repeat was exhausting.

You really have to work to stay with this book because it meanders from character POV to character POV.
Audiobook
Very evocative of time and place, some great turns of phrase, memorable characters

Like the "Godfather" but set in India instead of NY!
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a lengthy book with some quite heavy subject matters. It is dark, dangerous and exciting. It follows different stories over different timelines and all meets together for a devastating conclusion. There's lots of corruption, violence, drug use, murder and heartbreak.
The writing is wonderfully vivid and really transports you.

I think this is a 3.5 rounded up for a few reasons:
1. It's very much a case of "good but maybe not for me". The writing is unique and striking, the scope of the novel is impressive and detailed, the world is vivid. But when it's very much based in nuances of business and criminal organizations, I sort of check out. Also, with the audiobook it was sometimes hard to keep track of the many characters.
2. That said, things picked up for me with Neda's section. Ajay's was fine but I found myself tuning out a lot. I was far more intrigued by Neda and Sunny's parts.
All in all it was a surprisingly quick listen, given how long it is and I'll probably pick up the next book but it's not a new fave.

This book is engrossing and really submerges you in its world. It is about really intense and depressing topics, but, for the most part, it doesn’t actually make you feel as sad and desperate as much of its story/characters.
