This volume does an excellent job in showcasing the blatant cruelty children can have towards those who are deemed different. Shoko, because she is deaf, and Shoya, because the tides turn against him. I do wish the volume was a little longer but stopping where it does successfully makes me want to read the next volume.

I was unsure about this book at first, because it does follow the perspective of a bully to someone with a hearing disability, and at parts of the book it seemed like it was excusing his behavior because he was also getting bullied. (Plus, the teachers in the book handle the situation so incredibly poorly!) And, while not all of my concerns are addressed, the ending of the book definitely made me want to see what direction the next volumes will take this story!

I don’t even have words to describe the pain I felt while reading this manga, I even cried. It’s so hard to watch a person go trought bullying. It hit like truck, It’s just- I don’t even know If they right word to describe what this made me feel, besides pain, exist.
