The story didn't really live up to the promise set forth by the book summary. The concept is decent and it's interesting to imagine how life for women medieval fantasy times would turn out if all the men suddenly disappeared. There is so much that can be explored with such a premise but the book settles for the the bland and the ordinary. The characters lack depth, the storylines are simple and the feminism seems a little heavy handed.

That said, it's not entirely un-recomendable. It's a short book so it's probably worth reading it once and there is nothing terribly offensive to put anyone off. There were some fun moments in the book, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air parody song being my favourite!

This was awesome! It was silly, had good messages, awesome characters and wonderful pop culture references! Really hope we get a second volume.

After all the men die from Mancastle, a sword from the lady in the lake declared the blacksmith’s wife the new king. And she sets about reversing all the sexist rules and laws of the previous ruler, starting with freeing his eldest daughter from the tower he locked her in.

‘Lady Castle’ takes a bunch of well known tales and spins them uniquely. Most of their problems were solved not through violence, but through lamps, pee, and tea parties. It’s a fun story but lacks background. Definitely recommend still!

Delightful! An all-female (except one old knight) castle escapes a curse by being decent human beings--apparently curses don't work as expected if you aren't a dick.
