I was really excited for this and I got so dissapointed :(
What were those last 25% ?? Was there ANY sense?? NO!
Oh hmmm this situation seems dangerous, even deadly. But I won't call the cops because thats taking too long. LMAO
The pacing was way off. It first it was really slow, dragged even a bit and then it literally exploded without a reason. That also led to me not really connecting with the story or the characters themselves.
What a shame I really wanted to like and enjoy this :(

OH. MY. GOD.
This book was not at all what I expected it to be. I was kinda disappointed by this, but mainly because the description felt sorta misleading. But the book was absolutely amazing on its own, and by the second half I didn’t want to put it down.
It felt lackluster in some areas (I can’t explain but some parts felt missing, but this might have come from the description not lining up with the actual feel of the book), but the ending was phenomenal!! I seriously had to just sit for like 10 minutes after finishing to digest it, and even then (and now, like an hour later), I feel incomplete, like the book has taken something from me, and like it’s going to stick with me for a long time (like all the best books do).

I listened to the whole thing in almost one sitting, so you'd think I’d give it a high rating, but once we got to the introduction of the third POV, I had a sinking feeling I'd hate the way it ended, and I sure did. I hate hate hated Nico’s stupid creepy supervillain plans and the fact that it ended with him still free. Mick should've killed him when she had the chance 😤.
This was very atmospheric and obviously I wanted to keep reading, but I feel like it would've hit harder if they'd been older/it wasn't a YA book. Obviously part of the conflict with Mick is driven by the fact that she's underage but it's absolutely ridiculous to believe that Nico is pulling off all these stunts as a 19 year old (unless he was lying about his age I suppose, which is certainly possible.)
Also this book being described as a sapphic thriller when the plot hinges on this older man creepily obsessed with an underage girl, down to the fact that he gets the last/titular line of the book…that's not what I signed up for. I feel like this book would've been WAY better if Nico had been a woman, but as is, I'm just so tired of f/f stories involving men. Get them the fuck out of here.

Really enjoyed this. It started with a bang and then went back in time to tell us how we got there, and I always enjoy that. Gives me something to look forward to. The characters were all quite stupid and made some unnecessary mistakes to make everything far worse; but they’re teenagers, so I guess they didn’t know any better yet. I don’t usually enjoy YA books, but this was fun and mysterious and had me wanting to know what happens next
