I have to admit, the story had a certain charm to it and I love the narrative choice of making each chapter almost its own, self-contained short story.

The Berlin one book one city book , and is a collection of stories about various people that a newly trained chiropodist interacts with.  It's translated, the language is heavy-ish, but writing is very deep.  not hard to understand why this is an award winning book.
