Egans writing is sooo good. There's something just so compelling about her characters and prose. She raises great questions and increasing ideas.But I've rounded this down from 5 to 4.5* because I found the jumping in characters and timelines distracting. It's normally something I enjoy but it was a bit too confusing in this novel.

Weird, wonderful, and twisted. Egan can write! Mostly moments of brilliance. Some overreaching chapters that start to drift into the realm of being too clever hitting a wrong note. Visit from the goon squad was better and more tightly woven. Probably good book to reread because of all the connections that are easily missed.

Expertly written but not as fun to read. The many characters left me literally drawing a character map and I couldn’t tell if I was supposed to just give up and accept that I’d miss connections or if I was supposed to read more slowly and carefully. I loved the questions about technology and privacy.
