At this point I would read Joan Didion‘s grocery list. There‘s something about her writing, i can’t describe it. My favorite books of hers yet.

Favorite essays: Slouching toward bethlehem, On Home, On Self-Respect and Goodbye to All that. The last three struck a chord as I’m entering my mid-twenties and figuring out my relation to home, place, and people.

For me this book is more like a 3.5 for Joan Didion's great writing style. She really brings alive the loneliness of the central character, a woman lost at sea with her life and what she wants from it. Worth checking out.

I love Joan Didion; I feel I could read her essays all day every day. In this collection I particularly enjoyed ‘On Keeping a Notebook’ ‘On Self-Respect’ and ‘Goodbye to All That’, but each one of them is intriguing, insightful, surprising.
