For the people judging this book harshly, please keep in mind it was written over 30 years ago. It's a solid Sandra Brown novel for the time. Knocking it down a star because I identified the killer when the character was introduced. But, you read enough of her novels, you get good at picking out the bad guys.

I only read 37 pages of this book and it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. I almost guessed the plot correctly within that time, hated the writing, and the characters just felt way too stereotypical. Also… a woman flirting with a suspect in her mother’s 25 year old murder case??? Who was her dead mum’s high school boyfriend???? Him flirting back… even though he knew her as a baby????? A mess!

Thank you Grand Central Pub for the gifted copy of The Best Kept Secrets!  All opinions in this review are my own.

Best Kept Secrets was not for me.  I DNFed it at 213 pages.  I was wary when I first started reading because of some of the language that was used and the comments being made.  While the mystery intrigued me in the beginning, the characters were so unlikable it was hard to continue.

I read quite a few reviews of this book and a lot of people were disappointed. They didn’t like the age discrepancy between our heroine and our hero, they didn’t feel he was a strong enough or central enough character to be the hero...

I liked it. It’s earlier Sandra Brown, but the character development, the influences of their pasts on their presents, the conflict between Alex and Reede... I liked it. I even liked the struggle: can you have a relationship with someone who had a relationship with your mother?
