This was sooo good. For the first half it felt more fun, almost lighthearted and had kinda an Edgar Wright feel. Around the half way mark it took a very dark turn and I loved it! A little bit of spook, a lottle bit of creepiness and some intensely high stakes. I loved the last 100 pages or so in particular, just full of twisted action and fear for the characters lives.

My only criticism really is I think the character of Trinity could have been done better, she felt a little gimmicky and surface level and could have been a really cool character we cared about if she was done a little better.

This was one I went into with VERY high expectations, and I admit that’s likely why I didn’t enjoy it as much as I wanted.

The concept of a haunted Ikea is fantastic, and I loved the alternating of chapters and product descriptions (which get progressively weirder). The characters were a strong suit as well, especially Basil.

That being said, the pacing felt off for me. There’s not a whole lot of atmospheric build up - a few spooky things happen, then BOOM, it all goes to hell. That can work, but in this case the second half of the book felt pretty rushed, and it didn’t match up with the more comedic vibes in the first half.

While this is neutral for me, I will add that this book is more gory than scary. I didn’t ever feel freaked out, but I DID make many grossed out faces (but my horror comfort level is higher than my gore comfort level, so ymmv)

Overall, an enjoyable read, although I did struggle to get through it at times. I might still recommend it with some caveats, but likely won’t be rereading.

I actually couldn't put this book down once I started, it is such a quick read because layout of it, but don't let that fool you. This was amazing, the horror subtely creeping on the pages that once it starts coming together you're in for one hell of a ride.

If I was to recommend this I'd say: an employee at a furniture store, similar to an Ikea, is down on their luck. Accepting an over night shift for some money and to find out who has been vandalizing the store. What those who took the shift didn't know was that they were in for, an experience they will never forget or escape from.
