A very suspenseful story of a hostage taking involving a school bus of deaf girls.
I learned a lot about deaf people while reading this. It's great to come away from a novel with new insight. Assuming, of course, Deaver was on the mark. I wouldn't know.
I'd like to know what deaf people thought of this.

I love Jeffery Deaver, and I rate this book on the lower end only because I'm comparing it to his other books. It is a good story and has the trademark twists Deaver is known for, but I just didn't like it as much I usually do.

Gripping thriller. Interesting twists and turns along the way.

"A trio of desperate convicts has hijacked a bus carrying a group of deaf and mute schoolgirls who are now being held hostage in a disused slaughterhouse. FBI agent Arthur Potter is flown in to negotiate with the men, as are local police, state troopers, politicians and the media. Not everyone has the same agenda. And the killers will kill one innocent child an hour, on the hour, until their demands are met." (From Amazon)

A good suspense novel but is slow starting and ends quickly and almost seemed out of character.

This is a crime thriller/mystery that was published in the mid 1990s. It has many point of views and I loved being in the mind of our deaf main character and hostage negotiator main character. I loved the sprinkling of real world history. I got to learn more about the deaf community and where hostage negotion was at during this time. I enjoyed the psychology aspect too. I found it to be very tense most of the time and I was definitely on the edge of my seat at the end. I found the writing to be a little dry and pacing a little slow at times but I always wanted to pick it up. I really want to read more from Jeffery Deaver now. Read it is you live Criminal Minds!
