Special Agent Will Trent is working undercover in Macon, Georgia. He’s putting his life on the line to help bring down a dangerous criminal and he’s lying to his girlfriend, Sara Linton, about where he is and what he’s doing because if she found out he doesn’t think their relationship would survive. Unfortunately, the truth has a way of finding its way the surface and when a young patrolman is attacked, Sara travels to Macon to support the family and face a woman she hoped never to see again. Can Will keep his job and his relationship separate?
“Unseen” is the seventh book in the Will Trent series and I’m actually almost caught up with where I started some of the books in the wrong order so I’m looking forward to being fully up to date soon.
The crime plot on this one takes up most of the time, which is definitely needed as it’s quite a complex plot. Slaughter also wrote it in a slightly different way. We come in to the story in the aftermath of a raid at a drug house. There is then a split timeline where we see what is happening currently and then the other timeline moves backwards so we get a little more information each time it goes back a little more. This was such an effective plot device and worked really well.
As always with Slaughter’s books there were several twists along the way and I loved figuring some of them out and being surprised by others.
There was still time for some development in the relationship between Will and Sara and I’m really enjoying seeing how their story began.
I have been watching the Will Trent tv series as well now on Disney+ and whilst I have been enjoying that as well, every time I read one of the books now I find myself wishing they had included Sara Linton in the tv series. They’ve made a lot of changes but it is still good as far as crime dramas go.
The problem with having read some books out of order is that some of the moments of danger and drama were a little lost on me as I obviously know how things work out from the later books in the series but that’s on me for reading them out of order.
Overall, this was another excellent instalment in the series and I have no complaints at all.

A decent thriller in the series with Leena, Will and Sara. Not that new or unique, but interesting characters and a story ideal for a long train Ride.
