This is such a sorry tale to read, these poor girls forced to marry outside of their hearts because they are not deemed good enough. This I suppose is a cautionary tale to follow your heart as otherwise it could all end badly.

How lucky we are to live in an age and place where we are free to choose who we love and marry. A woman living in England in the 1850's had far less choice. This story describes exactly that. I felt sorry for the girl in the story, everyone turned on her, leaving her with no options. Sometimes love is bitter.
