This. Was. PHENOMENAL
Found family.
Ex-assassins
Golden Girls

4 women, 40 years of friendship, hundreds of kills under their belts. Shortly after retiring they find themselves on the run from their ex employer after a hit has been issued on them for crimes they did not commit.

I loved the banter and the wit - I giggled at least once a chapter. It was action packed and I found the characters to be very delightful. I wish there was maybe a tiny bit more character development but overall I loveddddd this story.

This is going to be a top 5 favorite for me this year!!

I've read all but the last Veronica Speedwell book and I didn't even realize this was a Deanna Raybourne book until I finally looked at the cover properly. Watching her do a completely different tone and voice to the historical mysteries I so enjoy was enchanting. Not to mention the premise itself! If you liked this book, check out The Old Man on Hulu (and if you liked The Old Man, check this book out). I loved how competent and accomplished our herorines are, how fed up with everything they are at some points, how their lives feel lived and full. This is a book for anyone who likes reading about angry women, spies, and/or assassins; also, there are lesbians.

To touch on the tone and writing style again quickly I'm still so impressed by it. It's a slightly dry and very straightforward tone that really fits the subject of the book. And the banter between the women fits that as well, you can feel the history between them all. Deanna Raybourne definitely has a knack for writing bitingly clever and feminist women and I mean feminist in the best way possible.

TL;DR read this book for a fun time with four 60 year old assassins doing one last hurrah before retirement; and also there are lesbians.

Raybourn watched Red and immediately must have started to write this book. Witty and fast-paced, though incredibly predictable. I love a mystery with a twist that’s easy to figure out so it kept me engaged and I finished it in two sittings just to know if I was right. I was.

Just delightful. Like the Thursday Murder Club in reverse, and a great fall kick-off read! I would love to see this as a mini series or movie too.

This was as funny as her Veronica Speedwell books, I also liked the older protagonists (around 60 yrs old) and that they, for the most part, were realistic. They had all the older women's problems, both health-wise and socially but used them to their advantage. It was a fun book and just what I needed, the narrator was excellent and I'd love a prequel!

Great book. Great, great, great. Fun, bloody, angry, smart with a found family who bond over bloodshed. As a woman reaching a certain age, I appreciate the use of society treating older women as invisible as a weapon, that these women are successful in their lives without having to have a man except when they want, and I greatly enjoy Menopaws! as their secret weapon. I ate this up like cake. Great fun can be had while smashing the patriarchy.
