Couldn’t put it down. Definitely buy books 2&3 before reading because you’ll want to pick them up immediately afterwards. Don’t make my mistake and not own either🥹

I really liked this book. I don’t read as much y/a as I do other genres so it was a nice mix. A huge part of why I rated this book 4 stars was the fact that I’ve seen it on booktok. It has been so hyped up and so talked about, I went into this expecting perfection when it isn’t. It’s a great book, really but it’s not perfect like all books aren’t. But because I was expecting it and wasn’t met with it I was kind of underwhelmed. I realized that people meant this whole series is amazing and seemingly perfect rather than the first book, but I wish I went into it blind. That being said it was still a great book. I am planning on reading the rest of the books and hope to see some character growth from the protagonist and hopefully Warner as well. It was very fast paced and a lot happened in a small amount of time which I like about series. Definitely a fast read, and very easy too.

This book is best read when in middle school or with the intention to not think too critically about it.
For a dystopia, the world building is very underwhelming, and for a romance, both of Juliette’s love interests are like walking Red Flags (not to mention they are only in love with what she represents to them tbh).
However, I really enjoyed Juliette’s character and her development! She’s consistent in her personality and, in the face of literally everyone and their dog telling her what to do, she calculates all her options and uses her own judgement to make her choices. That’s rare for a female character! I found her sense of loyalty and trust issues to be incredibly consistent and relatable! Her POV really elevates this series.
