2.5 stars. rounded to 2.

i have many things to say abt this book, both good and bad.

but first the bad things:

does the author know she’s allowed to use more commas? does she know that she doesn’t have to put a billion “and”s in every sentence? i know it’s supposed to be kind of a stylistic device, making the mc sound panicky, but after a while it becomes so repetitive it only makes me snap out of the story.

also, what’s with the billion crossed out sentences? i mean, yeah, some of them made sense, but juliette could be saying “i ate cereal this morning” and it would be crossed out.
the fact that juliette had a gun in her hand and for some reason kept feeling like she can put it to kenjis head is weird, and it’s even weirder that she didn’t realize her power trip. yeah i know kenji was being annoying back there but girl, you’re not jude from the cruel prince.

next, they’re running for their lives and here we have our homie adam asking juliette to kiss him. why do the mc and adam keep just being touchy and kissy even in moments where it’s not appropriate and doesn’t make sense? babe, get the fuck OUT of there

next, why the fuck is aaron so obsessed with juliette? maybe we’ll learn that in the next few books, idk. but here it just seems out of place and random. why is aaron the ultimate love interest in this series? you’re telling me this guy isn’t absolutely insane and is the best book boyfriend? juliette feels like a monster alongside him. i have no idea how aaron is supposed to be any better than adam, just because he loves her and is obsessed with her. especially bc of what aaron did to adam, i can’t think of him as worthy at all. although his “ill be good to you juliette, i promise” DID do something to me LMAO.

let’s get to the good things now!:

i do pretty much like kenji. i think he’s funny and i hope juliette’s platonic relationship with him will get even better. i think the setting of the story is interesting. and i like how the author is truly able to portray juliette as out of her mind and insane when it’s right. it’s hard to do that, but the author managed it.

in conclusion: this book is objectively bad, it has some good points though and is a guilty pleasure read, which is why i’ll keep reading the next few books.

now, onto my favorite quotes!

-

I ruined their lives, is what they said to me. I stole their happiness. Destroyed my mother’s hope for ever having children again.

-

I am a number, a mission, an easily replaceable object; I am not even a memory in his mind.I am nothing.

-

“The world is disgusted by you,” he says, his lips twitching with humor. “Everyone you’ve ever known has hated you. Run from you. Abandoned you. Your own parents gave up on you and volunteered your existence to be given up to the authorities. They were so desperate to get rid of you, to make you someone else’s problem, to convince themselves the abomination they raised was not, in fact, their child.”

-

“Of course I remember you.” My voice is a strangled whisper. I squeeze my eyes shut. I remember you every day forever in every single broken moment of my life.

-

“I’ll be eleven next year.”I grin. “So you’re ten years old?”He crosses his arms. Frowns. “I’ll be twelve in two years.”

-

“I don’t think you should decide until the swelling goes down,” Kenji continues matter-of-factly. “It’s only fair. I have a pretty spectacular face.” Adam chokes on a cough that I think was a laugh.

-

“Hey, so, I’m just going to pretend like I can’t hear you guys anymore, okay?” Kenji makes a random motion with his hand. “Go ahead and have your moment.”

This book was quiet disappointing just because it was so overly hype and I have really high expectations. Sadly, it didn’t really meet my expectations. But don’t get me wrong, it still a great book. That’s why it receive a 3.5 stars. But now that I think about it again maybe 3.5 stars too much.
.
I’m sure who ever read Shatter Me, ship Warner and Juliette. When I scroll through Instagram I could see fan art of them as well. I think that’s what really change my opinion on this book, maybe if I didn’t know that Warner and Juliette were meant to be with each other then I’ll have a different reaction.
.
The writing style is AMAZING! It’s so poetic and just really nice. But I’m curious how she manage to displays such word and expression when she doesn’t have an access to knowledge being trap in the asylum.
But I absolutely love Tahereh Mafi writing. It’s so nice. I also listen, the narrator voice just capture so much emotions and it’s just so poetic. I think that without the audiobook then it would take me such a long time to actually pick up this book and an even longer time to finish it.
.
I felt so much pity for Juliette. She’s so naive and so pure. I felt so much sympathy toward her. I don’t have much to say or complain in this book about Juliette. Oh but I do have to say... her attitude toward something could be quiet frustrating.
Warner though... so like I read this book with a mental note inside my head that read “Juliette and Warner will be together” and it was just.... harsh to see such actions. But deep down I knew he was good.
Adam.... I didn’t really mind Adam, but didn’t really care about him. Like of course I do, but not as much. Though Adam’s brother, James, is just so innocent and bright. I really like James.
.
Another thing that I didn’t really like was that there’s not much action that happen. Like it was Juliette was supposed to go to this military base and then she escape it with Adam by her side. Nothing happened much.
.
Overall, it was quiet disappointing but I did enjoy it. That’s why I’ve decided to pick up the other two book. But I feel like my thoughts and opinion are also affected by the thought that Juliette and Warner will be together.

Honestly kind of an annoying book. I enjoyed the author's use of description but the characters and plot were obnoxiously romance-y.

📝 Rezension:

Was zum Teufel habe ich da bloß geleeeesen?!

Okay, also.

Shatter Me was an interesting read, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me. I appreciated Juliette's struggle with her powers, but at times it felt like the story dragged a bit. While the writing has some beautiful moments, I found it a bit overdone for my taste. The love triangle with Adam and Warner felt predictable, and I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I hoped. There were cool concepts and some action, but overall, it didn’t leave a lasting impression. It’s definitely got its fans, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

I didn’t know what to expect but I really fell in love with the unconventional writing style and Juliettes character! This dystopian story was darker than expected but I enjoyed reading it nevertheless.
