This was the first audiobook I’ve listened to, and it took me a while to get through it since I don’t habitually listen to books. However, this was a thrilling, dark, upsetting read, and although there were long-winded descriptions, it wasn’t slow. I feel like I know the main characters inside and out, and I felt their pain and emotions as they experienced them. This is not a lighthearted read, and I would definitely check trigger warnings before attempting this.

I did not enjoy this book at all.  The first half was okay, but the second half kept getting more and more grim with every chapter.  I'm giving this book 1 star because I can see how someone who really likes Gothic horror and really dark content could like this book, but it just wasn't for me.  If you're thinking about reading this book, please tread carefully, as it contains a lot of disturbing and potentially triggering content.
