Very messed up book. I can’t even say much or I’ll spoil it. But there’s so many twist and turns that makes the story interesting.

A great read, but a dark one. Highly recommend if you've got the mental space to take on a difficult situation that borders on the unthinkable.

The book came from my book swap pile and has been a book I’ve wanted to read since I was in my teens, as my best friend had read it and wanted me to read it! At the time she told me of the topics the book included but for some reason, I never got round to reading it.

This book is just awfully sad. 4 children are locked in their grandmother’s large home, when their father dies in an accident. The mother then advised they are unable to stay in their current home as they do not have the money to survive, so they moved in with her parents. However, as this is happening you learn the mother was banished from the home as the person she married, and the children’s father was her uncle.

when the family arrive at their grandparent’s home they are shown to their room where they are told they will be kept for a couple of days. Their mother informs them for her to receive any money from her family she will need to be at her father’s beck and call all so she can be re written into his will (her father is also unwell).

What progress is 4 healthy children enter this home and leave 3 years later changed.

The abuse the children endure from the grandmother and subsequently their mother is stuff nightmares are made of. as the children are from an incestual relationship the grandmother instils into the children they are evil and put in place various rules for the children. What transpires is a horrific moment between Cathy and her brother Chris. I am glad I read this book, especially at the age I am now. I researched it after and its crazy how many people read this book as children
