It tries so hard to be historically accurate that the first few chapters are just an info dump that I becomes overwhelming and takes over the story. I think too, it bounced around between so many character's POV that it felt slow and difficult to keep track of everything.

This was an excellent interpretation of the legend of Robin Hood. I am giving it a solid 4.5 stars! It started a bit slow but then picked up pace about a third of the way in. I have always liked the idea of Robin Hood and this one kicked it up a notch for me. I enjoyed the backstory of how Maid Robyn became Robin Hood and how the relationship between Robyn and Marion was a tale of unconfessed love from childhood. The consummated adult relationship was heat-level fade-to-black but the flowery expressions of their love and passion were beautifully done. The story of Prince John and the vicious Sheriff of Nottingham was interesting and somewhat suspenseful with a few creative liberties, namely Deputy Blanchard, to spice things up. Robyn Hood, Marion, Queen Eleanor, and the team of outlaws certainly were a force to be reckoned with as they fought to save their country and return Richard the Lionheart to his rightful place on the throne. The language and tone were fantastic and the character of Robyn was delightful. I am thoroughly smitten with Lady Robyn of Loxley/Robyn Hood! She was a strong, devoted, skilled, humble, and chivalrous soul and Marion was no slouch either. The story wrapped up nicely with a HEA. I couldn't be more pleased with the book.

3 stars. This was not bad at all. It’s a pretty accurate Robin Hood retelling just that Robin is a girl. I liked that aspect. The writing was also good. It’s just that I was never fully invested in the story and the romance seems so rushed and underdeveloped. I liked Robyn and Marian fine enough but I didn’t feel any chemistry. I don’t have much to say about this one as it didn’t really do much for me.

I really want to read a lesbian Robin Hood novel that I actually like. My odd little niche has me finishing books I would otherwise DNF. But someday, I'm going to find one I like.

The Lesbrary review is, albeit, slightly sugar-coated because it is focused more on the content itself rather than my personal views as an obsessive Robin Hood enthusiast. And the content alone in this book wasn't all bad.
