This book deserves a second read-through in the not-too-distant future, simply for the amount of nuance that Megan Whalen Turner includes. It was an engaging wrap up to the series told from a unique perspective (par for the course) with interesting character development as well as considered political/military intrigue.

Second time through - I don't think Turner's writing is for everyone, but I really love her storytelling in this series.

Ah, the end of an era. It was so fun to be back with Gen after three books. He's easily one of my favorite book characters of all time. This book has some really funny moments, some tense moments, some sad moments, and it's a fantastic conclusion to the series. The Queen's Thief series is masterfully written and one of the best book series I've ever read.

A satisfying conclusion!

This also good. Because you get to see Gen and his gang a lot. But it’s the last, so savor it!

This is the POV that I like the most, eventhough he is the grandson of a rival house. But he’s the good among evils kind of character. I got teary eyed a little bit when this POV got the acknowledgement that he never thought would’ve come to him from his family. It was heart-warming. And not too dramatic, I’m afraid, if you’re looking for bloody war scene.

Sometimes I wonder Gen has that really psychic instinct in choosing his people. Others would warn him with how to choose his circle since he’s prone to betrayal and when he got betrayed he shook it off easy. He’s ridiculously compasionate I don’t find it charming to my liking. I’d rather see Atollia with her cold hands, even though in the book what Gen did was always the best way. But in cruel kingdom world, I don’t think that’s appealling.

Love the ending, though. If you have time and a little bit of patience and a knack for fantasy novels, then do read them! It’d be such a delight, I’m sure.
