This book was a delight! I love this series for its character, location, and the very punny writing that is full of chuckles even in the darkest time. This time, with a tv show being filmed here there were some fun "behind the scenes" moments that truly brought an even more buzzing atmosphere to the story. I love how this is an edgier cozy, a bit more graphic, more face to black / closed door romance scenes (I think those are the right terms….), the discussions about substance abuse. There was A LOT of drama and danger and it kept me guessing until the end. AND I especially love how Clare’s police detective boyfriend trusted her to make the right decision, held her confidences, and treated her with love and respect (we frequently do NOT see this by detectives and/or significant others in mysteries).

I already can't wait for more!

I LOVED the beginning of this series so much, gorged myself on the binge read. Then I caught up and have to wait for the books to be published… this is my first time listening to one as an audiobook. I’m not sure if that influenced my feelings, but this one had a different vibe in parts and wasn’t my favorite.

It felt like the romance, even though it is a small part, had a different feel from previous books. Adore the characters and setting, so will jump into the next book if one becomes available.

Bulletproof Barista is a mystery novel, which combines the narratives of a coffeehouse operation with a television show production. Those two themes alone make for interesting reading.

The coffeehouse, Village Blend, has been owned and operated by three generations of the same family. A divorced couple manages the business. The ex-husband is responsible for sourcing the coffee beans or “cherries,” while the ex-wife is responsible for roasting the beans and operating the shop.

“The Village Blend . . . prided itself on using Grade 1 beans - specialty shade-grown coffee sourced by Matt and his importing business from small farms and cooperatives around the globe. They were then roasted fresh in small, custom-designed batches by me, the shop’s master roaster.”

The television show production is a significant operation including cast, director, camera operators, sound and light technicians, grips, assistants, makeup specialists, costume managers, and property managers. They all require food and beverage services.

In all of this activity, the author introduces many characters and a murder mystery. It is the coffeehouse manager, Clare Cosi, who unravels the mystery. This book is recommended for those readers, who enjoy a fast-paced tale with many plot twists.
