Oops forgot about this review but a very interesting concept for a book. Also turns out I knew nothing about Sri Lanka and their history so learned a lot. Honestly wasn’t super engaged or excited about it for most of it but it did progressively get better as it went and the last 50 pages or so were great for me

Very interesting read, something different. Really liked the mechanism of magic realism in the story. The second person style of writing took me a while to get used too and, paired with the descriptive writing style, this book took me longer than usual to finish. Very much worth it though.
Graphic: Homophobia, Death, and War
Moderate: Physical abuse, Suicide, Suicide attempt, and Sexual content
Minor: Vomit, Child death, and Child abuse

okayyy so not sure how to rate this coz there were somethings I loved about this book but a lot of things I DID NOT like.
(compulsory read for school)
okay so normally there's no way i would have picked this up on my own:
1. coz this is def 100% fantasy and uhh while I do occasionally enjoy a fantasy (mainly by reading it for the romance) I'm a romance girl. 100%
2. there was a demon on the cover page so ahaha I could already guess it was going to be pretty anti-God and pro-devil... yeah.
anywayysss read it. here's my thoughts:
I'm a Sri Lankan. so I LOVED having the Sri Lankan references in there (like hey I've driven on that road, visited that museum, taken photos of that lake, know the events he's talking about). Just not sure how much you'd get them if you weren't Sri Lankan.
Also loved the mystery aspect - guessed who it was like halfway through the book coz boy was he sus. the pacing of the mystery was great as was the pacing of revelations concerning the mystery.
idea of plot was cool ig.
um i don't read smut. well try not to. really try. so disliked the fact that this had like mentions of sex on literally every pageee. also stick to straight romances so uh-
but yeah. probs the part i most disliked was the anti-God and anti-Christian comments haha... and the whole embracing demons thing
question - everything was so tied up at the end - what happened to DD, Jaki, Stanley... what if it wasn't?
