If I could give this more stars I would. Henry and Serena switch bodies and try to get back to themselves by learning more about the other. There was quite a bit of science in this book which I think is what lacks in some Ali Hazelwood books which I think then rivals them. The spicy-ness is not all that bad which is interesting as they are in an opposite sex body. Granted it’s not closed door but it’s not bad. Serena narrates most of the book. I wish Henry had some more chapters because I would love to get inside his head more. However Serena has this sense of humor which both me and Henry loved. The author uses footnotes which took me a while to get used to but ended up liking. Overall this book was a little cheesy but I felt was wholesome and down to earth.

I did get this from NetGalley so thanks to them and the publisher for giving me this wonderful book. I did not read Ghosted the first book in the series which at a couple points was confusing but this book is standalone otherwise. I look forward to reading more Sarah Ready books!

Book Review: Switched
Stars: 3.5 X 5
Author: Sarah Oachs
Publisher: W. W. Crown and Swift & Lewis Publishing
Thank you @netgalley for this Audio ARC

Serena Otaki is an American Physicist who lives in Geneva Switzerland. She is an a big nerd who loves Star Trek. She works on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Sara is all about work and not much else. Sarah is having dinner one night at the local bar/restaurant and she ends up having a one night stand with a British fellow.
The chemistry between the two of them was amazing. All is well until she goes to work and finds out that her new boss Henry Joule is that one night stand guy.
She soon finds out that Henry Joule is a grumpy, uptight neat freak. They keep the relationship to business only. They are pretty much work enemies. One day while the two of them are at work a major electric storm occurs which affects them and causes the two of them to switch bodies. As they come to the realization of the predicament they are in they realized they need to stay close and as they need to figure out how to get out of this mess. As time goes by and they are getting to know each other and they are even having memories from each other. They also are coming to realize that this may end up being permanent. “Serena” ends up finding a pyschic to consult with. This psychic ends up giving them some good advice.

The first part of the book was a bit boring but it gets so interesting, fun and hilariout as Serena and Henry have to learn to navigate their new lives and find a way back to their own bodies. The end was a bit predictable but just perfect for this book.

Quick read, another meetcute-ish novel. I got this book as an ARC and it comes out in 10 days! This book has little drawings along either footnotes and it made the book really quirky and unique- I wish there were more! I will be checking out other Sarah Ready books!

It was so cute! The ending was perfectly done I was shocked at well this was done. The female main character is the lead in the narration as well I did an ALC of this book and she was great! The tiny bit we got of the male narrator was great as well. I wish we had more from him! The plot was freaky Friday meets science/magic it was funny, sad and made me tear up which I wasn’t expecting. Reverse grumpy/ sunshine, British and American, MMC falls first, STEM Romance and such a powerful message highly recommend it does have a bit of spice at the very end as well.

This was my first ARC and I couldn't have started with a better read.

Firstly, I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for this book for allowing me the opportunity to read one of Sarah Ready's books. I know this is book 2 in it's series, however it is very much a standalone and so easy to submerge yourself in the world.

From the first couple pages, I knew the author's writing was going to be for me. It was quirky, smart, real and so funny. I found myself laughing out loud and kicking my feet in the air through out. The author gave her MC, Serena, such a likable quality and she felt very much real and relatable. I especially enjoyed the footnotes, yes - FOOTNOTES, in the story. They added to the fun and uniqueness of this story and it's plot.

The plot? The plot is what originally intrigued me about this story. I was curious as to how the author would be able to pull of this body/gender switch and in my opinion, it was done very well. The way the characters dealt with such a change for the start, throughout, felt very realistic. Almost like, if this had happened to me I would have reacted similar if not the same as Serena. There were some occasions where it was hard to keep track of who was thinking what, in who's body, but I was able to quickly figure it out.

My only critique is I think the the story could have benefitted from Henry's perspective sooner in the story. It was nice to get a glimpse of his perspective towards the end but I think if his POV was shown earlier it would have given a little more depth to the story.

SENSATIONAL!!! Thank you NetGalley and W.W. Crown and Imprint of Swift & Lewis Publishing for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I want to thank my twin, Cara, for buddy reading this amazing book with me 💞. I had the best time giggling and crying with you. I love you so much! 🥰😘

OH MY CELESTIAL STARS!!! 💗💗💗💗💗 I absolutely loved this book so much!! Sarah Ready ALWAYS delivers for me and this is no exception!! At this point, I would read the phone book if she wrote it!! Ghosted was one of my favorite reads for 2023 so when I learned that the author was making it into a series I was beyond ecstatic!! I can say without a shadow of a doubt that book two exceeded all my expectations and is one of my favorite reads for 2024!! What a beautiful, charming, magical, hilarious and heartwarming paranormal rom-com that will remain in my heart forever!! In addition, can we just pause and appreciate this gorgeous cover of the book!!

Serena loves physics, Star Trek and her cat, Captain Purrk. She enjoys her simple life and staying permanently, happily unattached. Loving a man isn't in her future. While Henry loves physics, family and friends. He can't wait to find the woman of his dreams. Love and marriage are in his future. Complete opposites, right!?! Well, one perfect night they meet and sparks fly, particles collide and the universe comes to a halt! Until an electrical storm causes an unexpected "Freaky Friday"event at the particle collider and suddenly they've switched!! Serena is in Henry's body. Henry is in Serena's body. Now this is when life and love gets really complicated!! They have to pretend to be each other and stick together while trying to figure out how to switch back. Will they even be able to switch back?

The banter, tension, chemistry and hilarious moments between them was perfection! Henry is such a cinnamon roll, sweetheart and I love him so much!! He always followed his heart no matter the cost. I enjoyed seeing the personal growth both of them went through. Because they were living in each other's bodies it allowed them to see and feel things about one another in a new light. Honestly, it helps them to understand each other more deeply. In addition, I loved that this was about self discovery, female individualism and how you don't have to lose your identity to be with someone you love.

Overall, it was a sweet, hilarious and delightful rom-com that I highly recommend!! Of course, you will need to suspend belief to fully appreciate this wonderful love story. It truly deserves ALL the stars!! 💫💫💫💫💫

writing: quirky | plot: unique but no | ending: I feel icky | 2.5 rounded down

my opinion

Is 2 stars a bit harsh? Yes. But blame Jeff Bezos for the lack of .5 stars, not me. I can't lie: the writing was unique (she breaks the 4th wall a lot though) and the inclusion of diagrams and footnotes gave the book a lil razzle dazzle, but the actual plot made me UNCOMFY. Fair warning that this will make absolutely no sense and I recognize it's a "me thing" so if this premise speaks to you, give it a whirl. I think if you're a science nerd, and I mean a true nerd not a "I occasionally watch nature docs on Netflix" nerd, you will really enjoy this.

I love a good body-swap trope (Freaky Friday is a cinematic classic, fight me) but after reading this, I've come to the conclusion that it's weird when it involves a heterosexual couple. Perhaps it would work between a male and female friend AND if they swapped bodies but kept their personalities (for example, Henry LOVES tea, but when he possesses Serena's body, he's suddenly only into coffee strong enough to kill cancer). But it just felt icky (vocab on point) watching Serena fall for Henry despite Henry looking and acting like her, just with his British accent. (Why did they get to keep their accents? That was such an odd choice.)

Serena watching her own face smile and having her back stroked by her own hand and thinking how "right" it felt and how beautiful she was, which in turn made her fall more in love with Henry was ?????????? And no, admiring her own beauty through Henry's eyes wasn't a character arc moment where she unearthed some self-esteem, she LOOOOOVVVEDDDDD herself from the jump. The whole thing reminded me of the myth of Narcissus dies by a pool gazing at his own reflection because he's so up his own booty hole he forgets to eat. In conclusion: bad vibes.

Beyond the bad vibes body-swap, this was very much insta-love. And after a major bomb is dropped regarding Henry, it veers into cliche territory. It definitely needed to be explored like at least tell us WHY, because respectfully, that's not the status quo. But unfortunately it was just slotted in there as if Henry told us blue was his fave colour. Also, Serena's reaction was not what I expected because this is a game changer. It impacts the very foundation of which this "relationship" was built upon. Yet she just kept on keeping on.

Frankly I wasn't a huge fan of Serena. Is she supposed to be Japanese? I'm not sure. The author was kind of vague but it seems like all signs were pointing toward East Asia?? She was a little too try-hard for me and not finding out WHY she's so adamantly against relationships until the last 20% of the book was annoying because I spent the entire time thinking she was just assigned this belief without reason. Ultimately, the reason was quite legitimate, but as the great JoJo said... it's a little too late.

Anyways. As I said, if you like the premise, go for it. Even though this one made me feel like I was wearing wet socks in an airplane, I'd like to read her other books because undeniably she has a unique writing style and she does her research (petition to bring back research for fiction books).

Thank you W.W. Crown for the ARC. IYKYK my reviews are always honest.

pros & cons

pros: very well-written, you could tell the author actually did her research, liked the unique inclusion of diagrams and footnotes (the footnotes actually made sense... I'm looking at you, Jessa Hastings), unique premise

cons: swapping bodies with a love interest of the opposite sex is not something I need to read about ever again, Serena was annoying and condescending, twist involving Henry was unexplored when we really needed a detailed explanation, repetitive, slow start—the switch doesn't happen until almost 30%

Overall, great book, so much chemistry, STEM info, beautiful metaphors and lovely people <3

The only criticism is:
I felt like there was too much happening for it being (i think?) 2 weeks
and also, it was too predictable that they were gonna meet both of each other's families and would learn more about the other person by seeing the family dynamics etc
