A quick murder mystery short story that leads to an even weirder series of events. The story overall is a really fun twist on classic murder mysteries and I enjoyed what the author was putting out there. My only qualms come from the somewhat clunky nature of older novels's writing styles and the weird pacing. Some scenes are given long drawn out moments of reflection whereas others are skipped over entirely. The Poe references were fun but maybe could have implemented a little smoother, but I digress. This novella was fun, give it a shot.

Devils in Daylight,my first Tanizaki, is an exceedingly well-developed and extremely kinky novella that takes Poe and builds out the existentialism inherent in that design. It's also basically the antecedent for the internet speak of wanting an extremely hot celebrity to just fuckin' murder you because they are so hot. Sonomura would do well on twitter, is what I'm saying. Tanizaki has created a strange beast that unsettles for much longer than its short page length would suggest.

Bastano poche pagine per immergersi nelle atmosfere noir di questo racconto giovanile di Tanizaki: si ritrovano le influenze decadenti di Poe e Baudelaire, tra seduzione femminile e masochismo autodistruttivo dell'uomo.

Oh my god. What a book. It’s less than a hundred pages, but it made me laugh, my heart beat faster, my head spin, and – it was just so good! A lot of the same themes as [b:Naomi|34462|Naomi|Jun'ichirō Tanizaki|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1630701179l/34462._SY75_.jpg|1045331] – virtually identical where the blind devotion of an eccentric man to a cunning woman is concerned, but the suspense of this story was just sublime. And yes, it was so funny. Brilliant.
