Celaena Sardothien is no longer with us.
She’s no longer with us because she can’t hold the woman that Aelin Galathynius is.
Wow. Just wow. What a book. I was at the edge of my seat from page one. Just wow. I’m a broken record at this point saying how much I adore SJM writing. You know the drill; lots of surprises, secrets, new characters and out of the blue turn of events you’ll hardly put the book down.
I can resume the book with two quotes:
Aelin, Lysandra, Manon, Elide, Aedion, Rowan, Arobynn, Dorian, Chaol, Nesryn, Lorcan and even Kaltain... things got interesting, to say the least. From page one it is clear a lot of things are happening in this book: Aedion and Dorian need to be rescued, a Wyrdkey needs to be found, accounts need to be settled and some people have (deserve) to die. Let’s just say things go down in Queen of Shadows.
Lines are blurred between the queen and her blood-oath warrior. It makes me wonder who will make the first move and finally give in. And I just have to say that I’m still not a hundred percent convinced about them, about Rowan. And if their romance is really a good idea. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see... Oh Aedion. Aedion and Aelin reunited is something of another world. As if no time had passed whatsoever since they were kids attached to the hips. A heart warming scene that lets us know just how much they mean to each other.
Manon Blackbeak, heir of the Blackbeak Witch-Clan, bearer of the blade Wind-Cleaver, rider of the wyvern Abraxos, and Wing Leader of the King of Adarlan’s aerial host. Manon was introduced in [b:Heir of Fire|20613470|Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3)|Sarah J. It makes me wonder what part she’ll play when war inevitably comes. Will she stay loyal to her awful grandmother and the way that she was raised? Or will she rise for what is good and make a stand?
Arobynn is a master manipulator. Playing with Aelin all those years. Letting her know again and again that he is the only person that has control. He makes me sick. And I’m tired of him twisting the truth and making Aelin doubt herself again and again and again. Making her think that physically and mentally hurting her, breaking her, is for her own good. Fuck him. He deserves a slow, painful death.
When I wrote my review of Heir of Fire, I said Dorian Havilliard will come out victorious and that he *will* rise again.
On this book, Chaol finally decided on which side he is. But most importantly, he realized how valuable and indispensable his friendships and the people in his life are. Where before we saw a guy driven by honor and what he thought was right, now we see a man ready to endure the ugly parts of doing what’s actually right.
Kaltain brought the fire (literally). She’s been with us since [b:Throne of Glass|7896527|Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1495278054l/7896527._SY75_.jpg|11138426] and so it was interesting to see how much she’s grown with everything that has happened to her... and that’s all that I’ll say.
If someone is a fighter in this book, that is Elide Lochan. Someone who has so much against her, someone people have seen as irrelevant and not worth it and she still fought, with teeth and nails, to survive. Very, very, very excited to see what will happen with her next.
Although this book has it all: action, romance, mystery and even a little bit of comedy... It is actually about girl power. About how all these girls, Aelin, Manon, Lysandra, Elide, Nesryn and Kaltain, were thrown in the worst circumstances possible and still managed to come out victorious. These badass heroines are ready to show the people that hurt them just how bad it is to be on the other side and it ain't pretty.
I’m thrilled to see what will happen with everyone in Empire of Storms. See you on the other side.
She’s no longer with us because she can’t hold the woman that Aelin Galathynius is.
She was the heir of fire. She was fire, and light, and ash, and embers. She was Aelin Fireheart, and she bowed for no one and nothing, save the crown that was hers by blood and survival and triumph.

I can resume the book with two quotes:
“Let’s go rattle the stars.”
“So the world ended. And the next one began.”

She said softly, “You make me want to live, Rowan. Not survive; not exist. Live.”
“You make me want to live, too, Aelin Galathynius,” he said. “Not exist—but live.” He cupped her cheek, and took a steadying breath—as if he’d thought about every word these past three days, over and over again. “I spent centuries wandering the world, from empires to kingdoms to wastelands, never settling, never stopping—not for one moment. I was always looking toward the horizon, always wondering what waited across the next ocean, over the next mountain. But I think … I think that whole time, all those centuries, I was just looking for you.”
Oh Aedion. Aedion and Aelin reunited is something of another world. As if no time had passed whatsoever since they were kids attached to the hips. A heart warming scene that lets us know just how much they mean to each other.
She nestled down across from Aedion, her cousin, her friend. They’d been forged of the same ore, two sides of the same golden, scarred coin.
And he got it, although I would’ve wanted to make it way more slow and wayyy more painful. He brought his mouth against her ear and whispered, “Tell me what I must do to atone; tell me to crawl over hot coals, to sleep on a bed of nails, to carve up my flesh. Say the word, and it is done. But let me care for you as I once did, before … before that madness poisoned my heart. Punish me, torture me, wreck me, but let me help you. Do this small thing for me—and let me lay the world at your feet.”
When I wrote my review of Heir of Fire, I said Dorian Havilliard will come out victorious and that he *will* rise again.
Spoiler
And he did. Broken, yes. Missing some pieces, yes. Different than before, yes. But he fought and he won himself back. And for that I am proud. And excited to see what kind of king he will be.“All hail Dorian Havilliard,” someone shouted down the street.
On this book, Chaol finally decided on which side he is. But most importantly, he realized how valuable and indispensable his friendships and the people in his life are. Where before we saw a guy driven by honor and what he thought was right, now we see a man ready to endure the ugly parts of doing what’s actually right.
“What if we go on,” he said, “only to more pain and despair? What if we go on, only to find a horrible end waiting for us?” Aelin looked northward, as if she could see all the way to Terrasen. “Then it is not the end.”
Kaltain brought the fire (literally). She’s been with us since [b:Throne of Glass|7896527|Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)|Sarah J. She was a wolf. She was death, devourer of worlds.
