"And then it hits me like a bolt of lightning."

I haven't read much recently, so I picked this book up and decided to try it again. I had started it back in 2020, but going back to work forced me to put it down. I didn't expect just how much I would like it. I agree with other reviews out there that say the concept and ideas are overused; however, I still loved it.

I think the world in which Red Queen takes place is intriguing. I also think that Victoria Aveyard does a great job with descriptions in the book, and I really feel like I am transported to a slightly dystopian way of life. I'm not a huge fan of romance books, so I like how the romance in this book was sprinkled in, but not very in your face. (Until the ending, which gets to be a little far fetched, but I digress). I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series and seeing where the little lightning girl takes us!

Tier 2: Pleasure Read

A page turner but nothing super new trope wise. Writing is well done for a YA novel. VERY surprising twist though.

It use to be easy to know your place. Silvers were powerful and godlike over the Reds. Silvers ruled because of the color of their blood and what precious metal shade their veins ran with gifted them. Reds had no chance at all other than commit to the whims of game Gods.

Until Mare and the fluke that sparked a cover up.

Plot twists are riddle throughout the pages as Mare attempts to figure out why she's different and control herself not to mention surviving among Silvers, and rising to be so much more for her people.

I can't say I didn't enjoy reading this but I'm not sure if it's something that's worth a re-read or a series I'll look to continue.
It felt at times as if this was a story I'd read before but not quite as good as the versions I'd read previously. A poor imitation that was filled with clichés.
Everything about the story felt superficial and I can't honestly say I was invested in or even slightly cared about any of the characters or what happened to them.
All in all it didn't quite manage to meet what I was expecting it to be but i did like the idea.

Oh, hell yes! I just finished this book, and I am on my way to the bookstore right now to pick up the next installment. This is such a magnificent world, even if it is a bit typical for a dystopian YA. Pace was great, and Mare is a tough broad - none of that Katniss whining here. ;)

Can't wait to keep going through this series!

At first, I really struggled with this book. It seemed like a new version of the Hunger Games or Uglies that, while nostalgic, was the same trope repeated. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the last half of the book. Each time I believed I had figured out the ending of the story, I was shocked to learn that my guess had been wrong. Plot twists were done in a way that makes you say "Why didn't I figure that out myself" and have intention. Will be reading the rest of the books.

Una descarada copia de Los Juegos del Hambre fusionado con X-Men
