Some poems that really spoke to me were 'cuttings': 'Sometimes I fear a secret camera / in your shed. Its eye on me / as I wait in that choked, cobwebby / space like a chewed toy.' And also 'memory in red': 'We picked wolf peaches in the rain / dropped them into skirt ups / I find I am aching / for the mother who left me in a car / parked across two spaces, doors agape / like dislocated hips.' The imagery in the last quote is just wonderful: the car parked over two spaces indicating not only hurry, but the displacement and indication of being in two places at once: the past and the future: the part with and without her mother. The car doors open like 'dislocated hips', a sign of the old but perhaps also a distortion of childbirth. It was moments like this that made me want to high five Kaddy. Including these two, perfect lines: 'why you want to curl up inside her / why you want to curl up, inside her.' A comma that makes such a difference.
