Chuck Palahniuk is able to look into the worst ways people treat each other and then scare us with it. He tells us the way we are. He tells us how terrible we are and nothing he writes about is outside the realm of possibility and that's what is the most frightening. Well written and hard to read.

I was ready to give 3 stars on the account of mostly boring stories saved only by inclusion of earlier published Phoenix (which you really truly can't ever unread). But then Inclinations happened. That story is the highlight of the whole book, and I can't stress enough how much I've missed Palahniuk in all his brutal honesty, questioning every little thing in life. I don't want to unread that story, but I sure as hell won't be ready to re-read it anytime soon. It was that good.

What an odd collection of stories.
Mr. Palahniuk writes, um, bizarre pieces.

Many of these stories were great reads. There were a couple that have stuck with me. There were at least four though that were subpar or hard to follow. The back of my copy makes a comparison between Chuck and Kurt Vonnegut.  Honestly,  I think that's a bold statement. Kurt Vonnegut typically wrote about characters that were somewhat beloved or in a way that showed that he may have cared about them in some way. I don't feel like Chuck is the same way, but that's the beauty. Overall, this is great if you like short stories.

DID NOT FINISH

Raw but in an interesting way

I liked some of the stories, but mostly I just wanted to be finished with the book, although I’m not happy to admit that.
