Meh to the whole cradle plot. The last issue was a nice farewell.

Storylines introducing new superhero characters in this series have been a bit of a miss for me. Volume 3 begins with the appearance of a new teen hero in Jersey City, Amulet, an Arab-American Super Hero who can conjure magical shields and helps Kamala fight against malevolent supernatural entities that have come to their city.

And piggy-backing from Outlawed #1, Kamala wakes up from a coma and has to face a new world; one where teen vigilantes are outlawed and C.R.A.D.L.E., an anti-teen-hero task force, lead by Dum Dum Dugan is on the hunt to apprehend Ms. Marvel. Kamala deals with being the poster kid for a law she doesn't believe in and grapples with additional challenges as she tries to keep her city safe.

While the storyline had promise, the execution felt lacking as the pacing was a bit all over the place. Maybe Outlawed fills in the gaps. But it still doesn't explain the whiplash one feels when reading the later issues of this volume. The personal conflicts between characters seem to be resolved far too quickly which mitigates the impact and even the emotional depth that I normally associate with Ms. Marvel storylines.

I'm a bit conflicted. One thing I appreciate about this volume is Kamala's voice, but... the outlawed plot was pretty bad. The last issue with Stormranger didn't really make sense to me, either. I didn't like the way the other characters were portraited, like, at all.
It kind of got better in the end, but... meh. It all felt rushed and fragmented (the crossings with Champions didn't help). I liked Amulet, at least.
