I read this book for my 2015 reading challenge for the topic 'a book your parent loves', my Mum loves this book and said I should read this one. This isn't the type of book I would usually pick for myself, but I gave it a go anyway. I can completely understand why my Mum loves it so much, it's an easy and harmless romance novel which I'm sure hardcore romance fans would love. However, for me, I struggled with this one a bit. First of all, the basic over all premise just seemed absurd. Now I don't have a problem with weird or over the top plots but they need to be written extremely well for them to be sold to me, as the reader, and this one didn't do so well on that side of things. The story felt very much like a storyline from a soap that you would sit there watching and repeatedly think to yourself 'What? Really?' Some of the characters were ok, Nancy was well written and her development was explored well (although she came across as a bit of a Mary Sue) and she was likeable enough, Michael's side of the story could've been explored a bit more as I felt his characters personality kind of jumped around a bit which, yes, is to be expected from someone dealing with grief but he seemed to change from chapter to chapter and then suddenly at the end he was back to his old self again which seemed like an odd leap. I really liked the character of Ben, he was a fun side character and his story (however small and brief) was intriguing. I still can't stand the mother, I don't care if she had her sudden revelation at the end and 'changed her ways', what she did was ridiculous. Oh and don't even get me started on Peter! That guy was insanely creepy, his entire relationship towards Nancy and with her was so unnerving and made me feel really uncomfortable throughout! I don't know if he was supposed to come across as nice and sweet but he definitely didn't, he came across as freaky, obsessive and pushy! Most of the writing was very good however I did find some of the dialogue a bit cheesy. The ending/conclusion also felt very rushed which, after all the build up to get there, gave it kind of an anticlimactic feel.
Overall though, I have to admit that I didn't hate the book as much as I thought I would. It was a very fast and entertaining read and there were moments in the story that I actually really enjoyed.
