4.5🌟i absolutely loved this! such an emotional 90s coming of age story and the character dynamics were done so well. i just wanted a bit more of blake&beverly actually together in the end i felt like it was a bit rushed after so much back and forth but i can definitely see why people are loving this.. i'm just like other girls💗
Graphic: Child abuse, Death, Grief, Death of parent
Moderate: Chronic illness, Sexual assault, Murder
reminiscent all the Wattpad books I used to read but if they were polished….good book, a lil too much push and pull without outside plot for my taste but still fun
I was promised BOT and magnolia parks and I was given a book that was godawful had no good plot and was maybe 300 pages too many.
Blake and Beverly were both so toxic and shouldn’t have ended up together.
Literally nothing happened just the same cycle again and again for hundreds of pages.
Also they didn’t speak for two years and then suddenly were fully committed back together and everything was healed when they didn’t resolve a single thing also they both abandoned their depressed, sick mother once she was widowed which caused her to be so lonely she had to move back with her parents at the age of maybe 50
So many big topics added to this book that just weren’t executed well like Blake’s whole past trauma, the mums sickness, Beverly’s assault, Blake being sober then randomly becoming alcohol dependent for a chapter, their dads death, them both running away from home.
Also the dad just before dying said he didn’t want them to be together and that he only loved the mum not Blake or Beverly and this originally destroyed Blake and he said he’d never be with Beverly because of this and then none of this stuff or these deep seeded issues are ever addressed again like Blake said he’d never get over that and be able to move on and then suddenly he just forgot about it without processing it at all??
Also did the mom’s sickness just disappear.
There was genuinely no fun school scenes or scenes with the parents and Blake and the parents building a relationship after being adopted like they only focused on Blake and Beverly’s messy relationship when so much more could’ve been explored like neither of the characters had any character development whatsoever.
Thank god it’s done I wish I hadn’t read it

If I could give this book six stars I definitely would!
“Love is knowing someone so well that you could build them from memory.”
Bruh. I’ve got a LOT to unpack. The starting of this book was so addicting i devoured every single second of it. But then… it just? The author was trying very hard to insert angst but having an emotional scene in one moment and then just joking with each other the next really doesn’t do it, does it?
I thought this book would atleast be a 4 star but then we got to the partwhere her dad died.
“There is death, and there is the first morning after a break up.” EXCUSE ME????? This is such an insane thing to say i’m genuinely baffled. And then they just,, forgot their mum exists? Like the whole scene first of all was SO rushed but okay isnt half of the book about how her mum is sick and they gotta take care of her? And now the dad’s dead and suddenly yall dont give a shit? 😭 beverly girl a man’s dick really aint worth all that what the hell.
And then the reconciliation, i thought that would make up for whatever happened in the second half but WHY IS SHE DANCING WHILE THEYRE TALKING ABOUT DIFFICULT THINGS? If someone did that to me i’d actually walk away.
All in all, some parts were really nice. But the rest of the story…. I’m disappointed.
