The second book in the Renedages Trilogy starts out with Nova having successfully infiltrated the Renegades as one of them. She not only works with and for the Renegades, but she is also a member of her sworn enemy's son's patrol unit to maintain order in Gatlon City! Now going by Insomnia rather than her Anarchist identity of Nightmare, Nova has to navigate the ins and outs of daily life as a teenage Renedage, hide her secret identity from everyone around her, and figure out what this thing between her and Adrian actually is. Adrian, for his part, is discovering all the things that are wrong with the justice system he grew up with as the privileged son of Gatlon's beloved Captain Chromium and the Dread Pirate. It's an unknown race between the two teens to see who will achieve their goals before their secrets blow up in their faces.

Again the narration is so good! I enjoy the back-and-forth between the two points of view. Nova gives that snark and sass of the wanna-be villain. Adrian's parts are full of disillusionment and hero heartache. Archenemies carries the story along at a swift and thrilling pace. I cannot wait to see where Marissa takes the conflict in the next book!

This is the second book in the Renegades Series. I gets tricky when reviewing the rest of a series because of spoilers but I will say this, It could have been shorter. There were points that I got lost and may have tuned out the book. The plot gets better but it did get a tad bit frustrating that not much happened. It is a ton of build-up which I see is the theme of fantasy.

I still love Nova and Adrian. Although there is a bit of miscommunication it is completely understandable. IT MAKES SENSE.  There is minimal romance. The clifffffff hanger at the end is soooooo cray.

The series is easy to follow, because it is YA. If you want to escape into a different world -- this is your series to get into.

Representation: Biracial main character
Score: Six points out of ten.

Before I start this review, I have a few things I must discuss. First, I've read from Marissa Meyer before, with books like Renegades, Gilded and Cinder, so now I'm on book #4 overall, and book #2 in the Renegades series. Honestly, I thought it was slightly worse than Renegades, well, both of them were long, with the first one being longer, but at least it had action. This also had some, but much less of that to focus on the characters, and let me tell you, the only attribute they had were their superpowers. Other than that, they're cardboard cut-out caricatures. They're not even characters. Now with that out of the way, it starts (more like continues) with the main characters, Nova Artino, or Nova for short (I don't know why she's also called Nova McLain? I don't get it.) and Adrian Everhart. After an intriguing scene nothing much happens for a few hundred pages, except two things. Nova's grudge against the Renegades and her relationship with Adrian. And look, I get it! Nova hates the Renegades. You don't have to shove that into me a million times. The chemistry, well, it wasn't there. There wasn't any, and I couldn't connect to them. I hoped that this novel would be an improvement over the last, but it's a shame that it wasn't. The ending was outstanding when the characters found out that Ace Anarchy, presumed dead, was alive, and there's another cliff-hanger. I'm not sure if I should read Supernova. Maybe?

I wanted to read this book because I really enjoyed the Cinder series. So, I thought I would give Marissa’s other work a try. I struggled with the first book, and I also struggled with this book.

Adrian and Nova are each other’s worst nightmare, they just don’t it. In Renegades, Nova and Adrian fought the battle of their lives against the Anarchist known as the Detonator. It was a short-lived victory. The Anarchies still have a secret weapon, one that Nova believes will protect her. The Renegades also have a strategy for overpowering the Anarchists, but both Nova and Adrian understand that it could mean the end of Gatlon City – and the world – as they know it.

This book was boring. I would have loved for the hidden identity of Nightmare and the Sentinel. I felt like this book was just delaying the inevitable. It was filler book with no major thing happening except for Frostbite’s team showing to be the real villains. I felt like every single character is just define by their powers and absolutely nothing else. I would have killed for someone to have an actual personality. Adrian started to annoy the crap out of me about 50% in the book, Nova started to annoy me about 25% in this book.  I felt like there was no romance whatsoever in this book and no drama.

There was so much potential that this book could have, but it was just never there. I just wanted more, and I found myself skimming through the last 10% of the book because I was bored and uninterested. I am going to have the read the last book just to hopeful see someone go down, whether it’s the Renegades or Ace, but someone better go down otherwise I'm going to throw the series out of the window.

This is a solid second book to read. Whilst a lot feels like it didn't happen it does spend a bit of time building up with the last 100 pages popping off in a way that the third book can pick up from.

There were some things about the book that I hope will be better explained in the third book,
in particular why Monarch was suspicious of Nova in the first place. Was it just falling asleep in the hospital from the first book. It just seems very weak. Monarch is probably one of the few character that I actually don't like in this series so far.

With the ending of this book I cannot wait to see what happens and how everything will unfold. I don't really have an idea of where this could go, but do have some hopes.
