The second book in the Renedages Trilogy starts out with Nova having successfully infiltrated the Renegades as one of them. She not only works with and for the Renegades, but she is also a member of her sworn enemy's son's patrol unit to maintain order in Gatlon City! Now going by Insomnia rather than her Anarchist identity of Nightmare, Nova has to navigate the ins and outs of daily life as a teenage Renedage, hide her secret identity from everyone around her, and figure out what this thing between her and Adrian actually is. Adrian, for his part, is discovering all the things that are wrong with the justice system he grew up with as the privileged son of Gatlon's beloved Captain Chromium and the Dread Pirate. It's an unknown race between the two teens to see who will achieve their goals before their secrets blow up in their faces.

Again the narration is so good! I enjoy the back-and-forth between the two points of view. Nova gives that snark and sass of the wanna-be villain. Adrian's parts are full of disillusionment and hero heartache. Archenemies carries the story along at a swift and thrilling pace. I cannot wait to see where Marissa takes the conflict in the next book!

This is the second book in the Renegades Series. I gets tricky when reviewing the rest of a series because of spoilers but I will say this, It could have been shorter. There were points that I got lost and may have tuned out the book. The plot gets better but it did get a tad bit frustrating that not much happened. It is a ton of build-up which I see is the theme of fantasy.

I still love Nova and Adrian. Although there is a bit of miscommunication it is completely understandable. IT MAKES SENSE.  There is minimal romance. The clifffffff hanger at the end is soooooo cray.

The series is easy to follow, because it is YA. If you want to escape into a different world -- this is your series to get into.

“Once we have total power, what’s to keep us from becoming villains ourselves?”

I loved the political nature of this and the question of who gets to decide what’s good and what’s evil with the introduction of a prodigy antidote. This is the slowest burn I have ever encountered and while Nova and Adrian are finally getting somewhere their alter egos are back at war and I’m excited. That being said this book felt very filler to me. It was very repetitive and didn’t really pick up until the ending. But overall, I’m enjoying this series and I can’t wait to see how it ends.
