Two words: ZAMBONI. SEX.
I read a decent amount of hockey romance, and we need more Zamboni sex tbh.
Anywayyy, this was a delightful little second-chance romance where our boy JP fell hard, fell fast, loved a gesture, sprinkled in French, finally got his girl... and bad timing screwed him over. Cammy was a coach's daughter (whose parental background is admittedly still a little confusing for me) who was strong in her own right... which is why it was so frustrating to see both JP and her father figure try to make decisions for her.
Glad everyone got it together by the end though!
And again... ZAMBONI SEX.

This book hits you in all the feels. I have a soft spot for goalies. Truly. JP is the one I’ve been rooting for all along. Cammy & JPs story is one where I always hope for the best but prepare for some speed bumps. This book was everything I needed and more.
I’m happy to report I cried only twice during my read.

This story follows a GM assistant who thought a hockey player was the one until he leaves her standing, but apparently, there is more to what happened that night. I love hockey romances and usually eat them up pretty quickly. Sadly, this one was okay for me. While reading this book, I started noticing there was a background to the characters and storyline that as I reader I couldn’t find. While reading, I noticed this is the spinoff to the Hawkeyes series. Which is usually fine if the characters are explained but it felt like I needed to know. I did enjoy the storyline especially with the way the story started. The pacing was great and I liked the setting. This book is told from dual povs of both JP and Cammy.
Cammy is the FMC and the coach’s daughter. I liked her character and loved how strong and talented she is. She developed throughout the story which I liked. Then we have JP, who is a good guy but has his own secrets. I didn’t see much development with his story though. There are many side characters and I loved Brynn who is a sweetheart. I do wish we got to know more about JP’s friend. The romance is second chance which was cute and the book is a bit steamy.
The ending was good, and overall it was a good story. Not the best hockey romance I have read but also not so bad. I do think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous story, so I can understand who the characters were, because they were heavily involved in the book.

3.25⭐️, if you like hockey romance with angst & drama, you like this one. It’s addictive i must say, finished it in a day ( that’s a wow from me, btw).
Get a man like JP, DOWN Bad, pining, flirts & love declaration in FRENCH, wore her hair tie for YEARS…yes, yes, yes to all ( i love when MMC is bilingual, triple and more, its add more, you know)
Cammy the FMC, such a coach’s daughter! Puck queen~
And love that the hockey teammates came from all over the world, there’s Finish, Russian!!
Why it wasnt solid 4 star & more, it’s the Second chance (to me it’s tricky, to write a good one) & Cammy’s Father (super annoying), JP’s past (for god sake, wake up, man), miscommunication.
What i really like, the use of PUCKS,

Thank you to Kenna King and Chasing Books PR for the ARC of Match Penalty.
I devoured this book! I loved Cammy and JP’s story! I was hooked from the beginning. The tropes were top tier - second chance love, forced proximity, workplace romance, hockey, coaches daughter, AND he falls first. All my favorite things. JP finally convinces Cammy to give him a shot then an unfortunate night drives them apart for 1.5 years. This is their second chance story. Cammy’s dad, Seven, drove me crazy in a good way. He was definitely a helicopter dad but his character was great and essential to the story. Both Cammy and JP had great friendships that developed throughout the book which had a found family feel, too. And the spice was great and well timed in my opinion. I loved this book.

*3.75* This was a really easy and fun read for me. I know it’s a second-chance romance but the miscommunication was driving me crazy, I just wanted to scream at them half the book!! Their story and chemistry had me hooked though and it was all cleared up in the end. JP had me swooning with all his sweet French, he falls first and nothing matters but getting her back. I really enjoyed the side characters in the story as well. Thank you Chasing Books PR and Kenna King for eARC.

I absolutely enjoyed this book! I’m currently in my feel good romcom era and this book just fit perfectly.
We have Cammy Wrenley our FMC and the coach’s daughter she is brilliant, funny, a go getter.
Then we have our MMC JP the hot, playboy Hockey Player.
Both come from pretty shitty upbringing when it comes to atleast one of their parents. And when our playboy JP first saw Cammy he fell for her. In his quirky way of sending noted via hockey pucks when he finally gets his moment with her be royally screws up. Cammy is left with the question was it all a lie? JP left as the typical player and wondering if he lost her for good. 1 year later they find themselves working for the same Team: The Hawkeyes, Cammy’s dad is coaching JP. He is determined to get his girl back, Cammy is determined to not get hurt again. & ofc Coach standing in their way.
I was hooked, I need to know will they won’t they? And I guess you’ll find out.
I do have some questions like how old is her dad ?! Haha I kept saying well damn how old is coach but I hope all my questions will have answers in the future books in the series.
Don’t hesitate hurry up and read this & happy reading!
Ofc leave me your thoughts 🩷
