super conflicted about the rating. loved the camp setting but i couldn't care less about the tax evasion plot. would be like a 2 star if i didn't love summer camps as a setting so much

If you love sleepaway camp and murder mysteries, you are going to love this book! Such a great mystery, with unexpected twists ad turns. Recommended for grades 8 & up.

The Counsellors has all the elements that screams entertainment! Elite summer camp, teenage life secrets, high school drama, backstabbing, oh and a dead body!! Plus the story is fast paced with twisty corners. These are the reasons this book is an instant best seller. Read this now.

This is such a good cover and the premise sounded so good… but the actual story just didn’t deliver. Disappointing!

I found The Counselors to be an immersive slow-burn thriller. I enjoyed how it was told in alternating timelines. I never attended summer camp but I could imagine the bonds that would have formed were much like those that Goldie did. Part of me wishes Goldie would have been honest sooner, but I also understand her fears. I definitely wanted to read to find out if I guessed the killer correctly! If you want a mystery with teen drama you should check this one out. I can't wait to see what Jessica writes next.

Thank you to Penguin Young Readers for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Jessica Goodman's writing just gets better with time, I swear. Here we have a slow burn thriller where everyone (and no one) is a suspect, told in alternating timelines. What makes it feel unique is the sleepaway camp for the elite setting, where Goldie is the only townie. I made several guesses throughout of who the culprit would be (and regretably switched my pick at 80%), but I thought it was wonderful. The ending got a little rushed, but I ultimately loved the murder plot enough to ignore it. I loved Camp Alpine Lake and could imagine my camp experiences unfolding in the setting. This is the perfect YA thriller for summer, especially if you're camping!
