This book wasn't necessarily a horrible or even bad read, I just feel like it was advertised wrong.

A YA thriller set at a summer camp, what more could I ask for? Yet. It didn't give me a need to turn the page, to find out what happens next.

I feel like we really only got into investigating after 120 pages, and it took a while for the story to progress through the plot, so long that I considered quitting reading it.

Most characters were original and certainly not bland, but I never felt a strong connection to any of them.

Another pet peeve of mine: the story was written in a non-linear narrative, meaning each chapter jumped back and forth in time, from fall of the previous year to the current summer.

I didn't like the main character much with how she investigated.

She only discovered one thing, and even then it was all explained to her, all her theories were wrong—even her final ending theory, and at the end there was a very stereotypical big reveal all spoken by the murderers, so, basically, it was all spelled out for her at the end.<spoiler/>

This book was super predictable but I don’t really care because I loved it.

I wish goodreads hadn’t half stars because I would put this around 3.5 or 3.6.

There’s a lot I really liked about! The vibes of the camp and the lake and the summertime were so good and I was absolutely pulled into the setting! I also really liked the friendships/found family of the counselors at Camp Alpine Lake. I love the found family trope with my whole heart. Also, I adore the friendship between Ava, Imogen, and Goldie. It’s, um, to die for (sorry). And it reminds me of the valuable female friendships I have and how important they are!

However, I think for a thriller there’s not a well-developed sense of tension. I was definitely curious how the two seemingly different events tied together, I just wasn’t on the edge of my seat, which I like about a thriller. Also, the final twist was a little bit predictable. I was not surprised to see who was behind everything.

I liked this though, and it’s still worth the read.

It was pretty good story, but I felt like it dragged on a hit too much to get to the resolution. And I honestly would’ve loved to I see more camp life with all the activities. Because that’s stuff I love.
