as someone who loves summer camps in every sense I’m personally hurt by the direction the “mystery” (if you can even call it that) went. Decent writing, I was drawn into the book for a huge portion of it but as more unraveled my rating declined

This book reminds me of summer camp. Once upon a time I was a “poor” person working in a “rich kids” summer camp where it felt hard to fit in. Goldie has been going to this camp all her life as her parents work there so she doesn’t have to pay. And Goldie’s best friends are not from home or school, but from camp. They live completely different lives, which means when things get tough for Goldie, she keeps mum and just hopes for her friends to be there come summer. Goldie got in a bit of trouble, that leads to her not graduating and being the town pariah. She wants to keep that completely away from Ava and Imogen, however, when her ex-boyfriend ends up dead in the camp lake, secrets can not longer remain hidden. I really enjoyed this book, not just for the murder mystery, but the trip to the conclusion. Much of this book was predictable, but the nostalgia was so great I had to keep turning the pages. I was right back at camp with the kids, and the townies, and the foreign counselors trying to stay together. My only complaint about this book is the blood on the cover. It was not need and does not match the murder, but it was good enough inducement to get me to buy and read this story, so I guess it worked. I just hate when books do not match their stories.
