Epic fantasy with dragons and magic and politics, but still unlike anything I've ever read before. Split into 4 separate yet intertwined, both in the telling and in space and time, stories of four different nations and their people dealing with an apocalyptic event. Impossible to know who the good and bad folks are right up to the end. World building was deep and interesting. Multiple readers and most of them were really good.

So I thought Priory was a full five stars. And then I read this. OH MY GOD. This book was huge, but even still I didn’t want it to end. With Priory, there were some characters that I really didn’t care for (cough cough Niclays) but in this book I fell in love with all of them. It was beautiful and tragic and just amazing. With Priory, it took me a long time to get into it, but A Day of Fallen Night immediately sucked me in and I didn’t want to escape. Love love love love. Favorite book I’ve read in a long time.

4.5 - i enjoyed it a lot and am going on to read priory of the orange tree. Both books jump between characters, and sometimes the pace of separate stories are super different. Like character A subplot is hella ramped up and I NEED TO KNOW and then we suddenly jump over to character B's boring ass subplot and it kind of sucks. It doesnt happen a lot, but when it does it makes me skim through character B subplot, and miss some details as a result then im a little confused later. Maybe this wouldn't be a problem for you, but that kept me from five stars
