I liked Autumn as a character and loved Tanner, but when they slept together it was COMPLETELY unnecessary to the plot. That it happened in general was bad enough but the fact that he took her virginity- not only was it weird but it didn’t push the plot forward *in the least*. And he didn’t even REMEMBER that he was taking her virginity. And when he went over the next day to apologize she stops him. And says she took advantage of him? Idk.

ALSO: Sebastian is THE cutest and Tanner’s mom was my absolute favorite character.

tl;dr This book was a mess, and it gave me life

I thought it was cute! Gives off same vibes of [b:Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe|12000020|Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Aristotle and Dante, #1)|Benjamin Alire Sáenz|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1328320260l/12000020._SY75_.jpg|16964419] but done slightly better!

I had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book, the synopsis had me super intrigued but I was skeptical as to how it would be executed, but let me say it was done perfectly!

When writing about topics such as the LDS church it's always a tricky business, you never want to demonize an entire (legitimate) religion, however, like most religions they certainly hold some problematic beliefs that are explored throughout this book. The author did a wonderful job of remaining respectful and highlighting some of the wonderful work LDS church members do while using Tanner and his family to inject a healthy level of criticism for certain aspects i.e. Homophobia and Misogyny.

While Tanner's story is touching, I think it is the reality of Sebastian's life that is the most realistic and relevant - what it is like to be an LGBTQ+ kid who loves their family and their religion yet struggles with their identity and the pressure to meet expectations.

This book is awesome, a wonderful love story that features both a bisexual and a gay man; who fight to find a way to make their relationship work - and while angsty at times; Autoboyography is certainly not one of the typical angst-ridden stories with devastating endings that make up the majority of LGBTQ+ lit!

I liked this book definitely and the ending made up for most qualms I had with it. It was definitely slow at first, and I found myself struggling to get through the first two thirds of the book. I did love how the ending really wrapped everything up and showing the character development of both Tanner and Sebastian and what they learned from each other, influencing each other in ways they probably didn't even realize. This book is definitely good representation on religious trauma and being queer. I definitely see the appeal of this and how people really enjoy this book.

Originally I really enjoyed this book, but after some time to think on it I truly cannot give the book a higher rating than 3 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed the romance between Tanner and Sebastian and it was interesting reading about Mormon culture since it's not something I am used to. However, I really got annoyed at how Tanner treated his friend, especially when she was emotionally naïve. He took advantage of her and it stereo-typed Bisexual people on being "Greedy".

Christina Lauren are some of my favorite authors and this book did not disappoint. What a touching coming of age story that will stick with me for a very long time.

I love Tanner’s parents. They are the parents I think we all aspire to be. What a wonderful family.

This is a thoughtful book exploring how difficult it is to grow up gay in a super religious family and in a super religious town. Well done and thank you for this.
